Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?

Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?

iPad, iOS 7.0.3, Ipad Air

richard207: do you feel your new iPad Air screen acceptable? Or do you will be anoyed by this issue everytimes you will use your iPad?

1) If you think this will be not an issue or feel that the screen is acceptable for you, keep it, so you will avoid any back in forth, any additional dispapointment if the 2nd one is worst, etc.

2) If you don't accept to have this screen especially against the price of the iPad and obsiously all the expections you can have according to new device, then you can return it since this is a very simple process.

Personnaly I would return it because I don't like to feel unhappy with something I just bought.

Good advice! I know I should return it but I'm torn because I got a good Black Friday discount. I had similar screen quality issues with my iPad 3 but ended up keeping it because I only use it for web surfing and not movies so the backlight bleed doesn't bother me.

Does anyone know if there are any good units at all? If so, can you identify it with the serial number? What are the chances of getting a good one if I exchange it?

It looks really difficult to find out a very good screen!

Among all the buyers a small number of people pay attention really to the screen quality and are irritated when seen the issues we are talking about in this topic. The main part don't see or don't think about any possible issue on their screens so they will never complain and keep very excited with their new device and that's fine 🙂

That's why in the topic thread I see very few poeple saying they got a perfect screen. In my case I have compared a lot of displayed iPad Air and try to swap my iPad Air with two another ones but pushed back all the time because at the end I've been unable to find a better screen than my initial one. When tyring to swaped I always ask for the more recent produced iPad Air with respect to the Serial but this has never influence positively the quality of the screen.

My iPad has been produced during week 36 so definitively not the last one! So at this stage I'm not sure anymore that the serial number will ensure a good quality screen.

I got mine yesterday, serial number start from DMPL, ununiform screen, left side yellow, right side white.

Though it only bothers me when browsing websites.

by the way, those who got serial number of DLXL, the 5th letter means the production date, I believe the newest batch 1125-1130 has the letter R therefore serial number starts from DLXLR (48th week).

I suggest everyone feedback the serial number and see how the quality goes.

Actually I just noticed after using it a while that the right hand side is very slightly brighter so I take it back - it's not perfect. It's close enough for me not to worry (you have to look very hard). This one has zero backlight bleeding too unlike my last.

I believe that I will not be able to take a good enough photo to demonstrate it as it is too slight.

I notice the same thing. I just picked up my replacement today and notice the right side is ever so slightly brighter but I prefer that to the book spine and yellow tint. I must have been lucky as this is my first replacement and it's pretty **** perfect. Serial DMPLP. week 46 production. I'm keeping it. Not risking it with all the stories about people who have been through 10 of them. Not to mention my own experience with the iPhone 5S, I lost count of the replacements I've gotten for that.

I got mine on Black Friday, same issue. Did you notice the serial number while going through the new ones? Mine starts with DMPL, manufactured in September.

By the way, if you are looking through the ones start with DLXLx( sometimes x is number, sometimes it's a letter, the letter goes alphabetically, now the newest one should be Q)

I plan to return it next Sunday. Needing everyone's uptate of their exchanges, see if new batches (after DLXLQ) improved

Thanks for updating.

I just got some useful info to share.

How to understand the serial number.

for example PPPYWSSSCCCC

PPP: manufacturer

Y: Year (20 letters except A B E I O U), H for early 2012, J for late 2012, K for early 2013, L for late 2013

W: Week (number and letters 1-9 and except A B E I O U S Z) each stands for a week, counts from 1 to Y and repeats, half year a cycle.

SSS: unique i.d. of the product

CCCC: model i.d.

There's rumor saying DLXLs are the highest quality ones, don't know if true though.

Just a note for everyone to indentify the batch of their product.

I got 1 on Black Friday and the background White was not as Ice White comparing to my Ipad 3!

My Air is DMPL, anyway i took it back to John Lewis where i brought it from and i told them the problem, (they didn't believe me), so we compared it against the shop floor display Air and guess what?😁 3 of the staff saw the difference! I manged to get a replacement before leaving the shop but comparing it again to the shop floor display Air it was the same as the last one i just returned, so i decided to get a refund! I CAN'T BELIEVE APPLE ARE BEING SO STUPID BEING ABLE NOT TO SEE THIS GONE OFF (WASHED OUT WHITE BACKGOUND)!!!

THIS IS REALLY GETTING A JOKE NOW!!! YOU PAY BIG MONEY WHAT?😠

It's a shame though i really did like this Ipad Air! But not the yellowish background!😕

My Ipad 3 looks a lot better than the Ipad Air!😮

Is it possible to get a screen with uniform light and coloring?

Most all of the screen shots posted thru these many pages here look normal and standard for LED illuminated panels.

Nobody is looking at a white screen, what is there to look at?

For any who experience any anomoly in indicated use, video, APPS, text, etc, then an exchange should be made or service rendered.

Suggest you verify your Air new from box at time of purchase if you are worried, and place same next to a floor model.

Peace 😊

PlotinusVeritas, you make a good point but the photographs don't do a good job of showing the issues.

I owned the iPad Air for 5 days before even seeing these issues. However, once I saw them there was no unseeing them. In the past month I have seen these issues on about 70% of the iPad Airs at two Apple Stores in my area. And since I have seen other LED panels, including some iPad Airs, which look fine it's hard to agree that this yellow gradient and bookspine are "normal" and "standard".

I just bought the 16gb air from Best Buy during the Black Friday sale. This is my first ipad, my first Apple device. I'm coming from a Nexus7 2 which had a perfect screen. I immediately noticed the dark edge on the left side upon first boot and there is a slight yellowish discoloration on the left side as well. Tomorrow I will take it back to Best Buy for an exchange. My serial starts with dmpl as well.
