Ipad Air yellow screen tint on left hand side?
Hi, I have just got a new ipad air today. I am noticing that the left side of the screen has a yellow tint. Should I take it back for a replacement?
iPad, iOS 7.0.3, Ipad Air

Do not swap defective iPad. Return it for refund, then purchase it later if you still want it.
Here is what I experienced today at Apple store in Oklahoma. I went to the store to get refund for my wife's iPad mini wifi due to it's partial yellow tint screen. They took it to the back of the store to examine the screen in a dark room. When they returned 10 min later, they told me I can't get refund because I swapped it last week for the same reason. On top of that, now they said this iPad mini has been "modified" because:
Because this iPad mini is "modified" AppleCare is no longer valid and I can't get refund for it either, according to the store manager.
It is very shocking because they are the one who gave us a "modified" unit when swapping last week. And now our AppleCare is invalid? We don't have capabilities nor intentions to modify the unit. Why would we do that in the first place? Why did they run the "test" to see if the weight is right and if the back of the unit is magnetized when I only asked them to check it's screen hue? They said I swapped the unit too many times so it may be the way to scare customers who are very specific about screen issues?
Now I checked iPad mini wifi's weight at http://www.apple.com/ipad-mini/specs/
As you can see, the weight IS 331g, which is exactly what my wife's iPad weighs. I also checked whether this iPad's Apple Care is valid at http://www.apple.com/support/
It clearly says it is still valid until 2015. I can't find any articles on the Internet regarding magnetized apple logo on the back, but apparently what they told me at the store was a lie.
I'm very disappointed how I was treated at the store. So I'd say don't swap it but return it until you are happy about the device.
I purchased my iPad Air 16GB White LTE version on November 1st. I noticed the screen right away had a yellowish tint to it but it didn't really bother me or anything until my nephew came out of nowhere when using it and said something. Now I can't get past it lol.
However, the screen isn't that big it's just noticable now that I am aware. But the tint isn't my biggest issue, it's when my screen is on a black screen where I notice the yellow bleed and pink tint. Now THAT is frustrating. And my local AT&T store doesn't have any Airs in stock so I have to wait to return, assuming I do.
Here are a few pics. Do you guys think this is a big enough issue? I know it ultimately boils down to me but I am asking your opinion(s) anyway. And I appreciate them.
I can't help but think some of this is simply an optical illusion when staring at a blank large white screen which one would not normally do. Granted there are definitely some with real problems but some I think are seeing problems that don't really exist but see it because they are expecting to see it after having read these threads. I originally stumbled on this thread by accident, not because I thought I had any problems!
Here's my latest screenshot - I've measured this in Photoshop and the RGB values do differ across the screen but not by nearly as much as you might think, they tend to change more towards the central part of the screen where you'd expect it to be at it's brightest but remain fairly constant towards the outer third. Certainly there will be some that say the left side looks more yellow (and from the photo I had begun to wonder myself) but when actually looking at it I dont see that, and for real world usage the slight variation across the screen isn't noticeable.
Hi,
I used a good camera to capture some picture, I think mine is too yellow than most picture I saw. Anyone think so?
I need some judgement.
(the website limited 600*400? pixel, the actual pictures are pretty clear with details, I used the same fucus, white balance, expoture mode.)
BTW, My firend change his ipad air for 6 times, he tried to unfold 60 different ipad on different autherised store yesterday. All of them are yellow tints and book spines...
I have seen the image's posted here and the one a few threads ago, does look awful. I just got back from the apple store and mentioned it to the clerk, and he had a surprised look on his face and said, that no one has come back complaining about the screen in that store. He said its not the norm. Some of you mention your on your third or forth unit, and im puzzled as to why there are so many bad screens. I feel bad for you guys who ended up with this type of screen. I would be annoyed and return it also if that were the case. Im only posting a pic of my 32 gb ipad air, just to show that there are units out there that don't suffer from this issue. I guess this time I got lucky. On my macbook pro retina, its developed 4 dead pixels and im 2 months out of warranty and apple wants 660.00 to replace the screen. Kind of annoys me, but since im out of warranty nothing i can do ..anyway I took a screen shot with my phone, not the best pic, but it looks uniform to me.
this is my ipad compared to other retina display devices like a iphone5 and ipod 4, my ipad has got a mild yellow tint on the left and is noticable on safari and when browsing the web, i have also noticed that my screen "bleeds" you can test this by have only a black screen and is noticeable in a dark room.
yellowtail,
I took another pic of the screen. I see no yellow it might be my camera phone doing it. But trust me mine is full uniform and is white, again depending on angle you hold it it can look slightly warmer. By the way, you guys are right auto brightness doesnt work at all. When turned off, you can adjust the brightness. Im assuming there will be a software correction for this problem
I got my iPad air last Saturday at local store of major national retailer. Got 32 gig version. I have the yellow screen issue. On mine it is the complete bottom half of the screen (maybe starting 1/2 inch down from the actual center of the screen), bottom left portion seems to be more pronounced than the rest of the tint. Noticed that on some apps it is more pronounced. It is annoying, especially when working on photos.
Hard to figure out what you are going to end up with. Mine is a 32/Silver, seen other posts talking about others having the same problem.
Not sure if all of the Airs have the same problem, but when I tap on my screen it really doesn't feel solid like any of the previous iPads. I can tap on my iPad 4 and it feels solid. On my air the tap is loud and it feels like I'm hitting a very thin plastic cover. I'M really disappointed with the air, taking it back, getting another 4. Was planning on upgrading to 5S, going to hold on that too.
Attached immage is at about 35% brightness.
Hallo!
Same problem here... uneven screen (brighter and pinkish on the right side) and dead pixel, OMG! It was my 2nd replacement, waiting for the 3rd which was sent today. Both replacements are from Chengdu in China (DMPL). Below is photo of the 2nd Air screen at max brightness and black background (much much better than screen of my 1st Air), but i think that bleed is worse than in day of arrival.
I picked up a replacement for my horribly tinted (on the left side + the spine effect) 16 GB air and found that while it had the tinting and spining to a lesser extent over the left 1/2 of the display, the bottom left corner was very bright and discolored. Sure enough, there is massive light bleed as compared to my iPad 3 (pictured on the right in the attached image). Apple, is this something that will be addressed or an inherent design flaw with the panel?
Apple was able to reduce the number of LEDs for screen backlighting to 36 versus 84 on older Ipad...Apple relied on 84 LED lights for screen brightness but is now achieving the same brightness more efficiently with just 36 LED lights.
Ipad Air uses optical films which disperse the diode illumination, ...which reduces the number of LED lights needed, ... and ultimately reducing the weight and power consumption (making such a THIN Ipad possible).
I love my new Ipad Air. However 3 Ipads is too many, time for me to sell my Ipad 4. 😊
Hi Guys!
Been reading this thread since i´ve got my retina mini, exactly one week ago. Was kinda hoping i´m just nuts, but it´s definitely not a perfect product as i´m used to by apple.
Here´s my ipad mini retina. 16gb, wifi, spacegray, DLXLL. Not sure if keeping it is the right move. Although these pics aren´t very conclusive, you can totally see a washed-out, yellowish white; some lighter areas. And of course, the darker corners and bookspine, espacially right beneath the facetime-camera.
What would you do? Keep it? Replace it? Wait for ipad mini 3?
Shot with iPhone 5, no ambilight, brigthness of ipad mini 40%.
