Motion to FCP for Fog Effect

Hello.

I imported a sequence of my movie from FCP into Motion for general position for a fog/smoke effect.

I know I can render a QuickTime moive out of Motion and replace the seqence in FCP, but I would rather have it as a layer so I can keyframe the opacity better in FCP.

My trouble is that my Motion background imports as Black (even though it is set to 0). And I tried rendering it as an Animation Quicktime and that didn't work either. I also dragged the Motion file directly into the FCP timeline. I researched the posts to try to find an answer.

How would you achieve this?

I you go with Motion's default (which I think is DV) it will not work. DV does not support an alpha channel. Animation is the best as it is a lossless codec. Make sure when you are in the Export Save dialog that you:

Select Options
Set the Compressor option to Animation
Select Advanced
In the Compressor Setting in the new window make sure the Depth is set to Millions of Colors+. This is a file with RGBA. As long as you don't have a black solid your transparency should work from your export.

Just to be sure - on the Output - check "Color + Alpha" and "Premultiply Alpha"?
