Install or Reinstall Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the ZeroData option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

You would wipe the disk and reinstall Mavericks. You need to boot into Recovery mode in order to do this see OS X: About OS X Recovery - Support - Apple for more information.
Thank you for the info. This was the info I needed. I just bought this MBP and the Mac genius didn't give the answer I needed. I was in a hurry to leave so I figured to ask here. Thanks again,.
When you enter to DU on the left side list you have two options of discs to erase, the main disc named as the disc factory model and details and below the Macintosh HD. Wich one do i have to erase to take it to factory settings?

Surely you do not need to re-download the 5.2GB Mavericks installation file to restore factory defaults. We already have Mavericks on our system.
Can someone please confirm this?
Confirmed.
You do not have to re-download Mavericks. The installer is still there after wiping your drive.

Where is it? 😕
You could just click on the ''back or return'' key after you're harddisk is clean.
Otherwise do the following:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears.
-> Click: Re-install Mavericks
-> There you go!
Cheers,

You do have to sign in with your AppleID to get the Mavericks image back.
When I use internet recovery it downloads it, installs it, but it appears that nothing has changed. Should I expect the experience to be as if I just took it out of the box for the first time?
Hey guys, I have the same problem too! But mine is different from yours and what I mean is 'Can't Verified/ Retrieve Installation Information'. That it
Heya,
Yes you should. Please erase your disk before installing mavericks again if you want to experience the ''out of the box'' set-up.
