Will Mosaic screensaver ever be restored?

I know there have been complaints over the elimination of the mosaic screensaver, which disappeared in Mountain Lion. I am still running Lion because I don't want to lose it. All of the other photo-based screensavers don't come close in their appeal. I know it may seem silly to let this change keep me from installing a free update with so many other positive upgrades, but it really is a joy to see the montage/collage of photos of my wife come up during the day. I don't get why Apple can't put someone on this and restore what is/was obviously a very popular feature.

Can anyone from Apple respond? Is there even any discussion about getting this right?

Seems like a fairly simple way to keep a large customer base happy.

Hello All,

Please check this thread started by me:

They took it out in ML, but there is a way of returnig it to Mountail Lion (but You first need to have Lion to copy some files) and then overwrite them in Mountain Lion- check my last post. it is proven and checked on my machine and it works.

And I am much more happy with Mountail Lion than with Lion. i was trying to do something similar to the system in Mavericks, but it didn't work. So I came back to Mountain Lion.

Apple lately doesn't want to hear the customers. unfortunately it look like they take off all the good features used by artists photographers. They done the same in iOS7 removing Picture Fame feature on the iPad. Check also this discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5345183?answerId=23400846022#23400846022

I don't think they care about our opinion. I was posting feedback manyntimes and nothng helped.

Yes. I've seen it referred to as "Mosaic" and "Collage." I upgraded my MacBook to Mavericks from Lion and immediately realized that the screensaver had changed. None of the other options even come close in esthetic appeal. They could have eliminated any number of the other lame screensavers, but noooooooo. Let's keep complaining. Who knows? Maybe Apple will do the right thing.

Just an additional note: the Collage screensaver on my MacBook featured our late dog, Toby. My wife loved to watch these photos gently dift onto the screen and form a beautiful collage of so many happy memories. I am purposely avoiding upgrading to Mavericks because of this. Stupid? Maybe. But who needs all of the new bells and whistles if you can't have something that gives you so much pleasure.

Apple, get with the program!

We need to start a movement! Someone call Bill O'Reilly. Give us Collage or give us Windows!

Ah ha! Now you're REALLY onto something MSFcoach...

In truth, there may be just a handful of us--perhaps a couple of dozen following this thread and a smattering of others surfacing in other communities--and surely our numbers are of little if any consequence to a global enterprise with hundreds of millions of customers to satisfy. But scores of people--essentially everyone who ever visited our home over the years and saw our squarely-situated kitchen-based iMac admired this capability, and none were even aware they had it on their own Macs at work and home.

Nonetheless, it's clearly a very important feature to some, and Apple prides itself in delighting its customers and empowering individuals, so hopefully someone there will see this issue for what it is--a real opportunity. Why?

Consistent with your commentary, I'm of a mind that there's a great deal more to all this than meets the eye--so to speak. Ongoing research suggests more strongly than ever that mental health and happiness is very positively influenced by repeated exposure to pleasant experiences, including memories. I'm a lifelong and constant photographer, and as I watched so many remembrances of the very best of family, friends, and life's myriad celebrations, I became convinced that this particularly contemplative presentation was having a significant impact on my wellbeing.

Again, I think Apple may have tapped into something of much greater import and potential than the casual observer might surmise. And coupled with the now ubiquitous and excellent iPhone camera, it might very well take root ... automagically.

It would be a shame and a real irony to squander such opportunity unknowingly … and seemingly so unnecessarily!

KBI, perhaps we can link this to Obamacare somehow. Surely, a screensaver that provides so much emotional support and therapeutic value can be mandated. Apple MUST comply ... or face the wrath of the Kathleen Sebelius!

Okay ... okay. Let's try to be rational here, lest the NSA target me for a predator strike. If anyone following this thread knows a software developer who could replicate the Collage screensaver for Mac, I would be happy to invest.

Just sayin'

Rick,

I think this is hopeless ... unless ....

Someone with programming skills needs to create an app that will reproduce this screensaver in Mavericks. In addition, the app should launch a music selection from iTunes to accompany the collage. Awesome. I would gladly pay a fair sum to install this screensaver.

Can we find someone who will take this on? What would he/she charge to create it and keep the rights to earn money in the App Store. This is an app that is screaming for production.

Someone ... please step up and take it on.

Eventually, I will switch to Mavericks (or some future OS) and abandon this terrific screensavor. It's a shame that Apple can't get this right.

I haven't seen anything that will produce the same screensaver effect as Collage in Mavericks. I have purposely avoided upgrading to Mavericks for this one reason: I don't want to give up the Collage/Mosaic screensaver.

Meanwhile, there's nothing in Mavericks I can't live without. Maybe the next upgrade will restore this great screensaver. I hope so.

I'd buy a third party solution to this in a heartbeat.
