I inspected the attribute with a third-party application and now I want to write a URL string as metadata from Terminal.
I tried plutil, xxd and xattr but still couldn't figure out the right form to write the bplist.
Any ideas?

I don't have a problem with using temporary files, for my project I was just looking for a way to convert directly. NSPropertyListSerialization (which is also what my Cocoa-Applet uses via AppleScriptObjC) also seems to deal with escaping or encoding the various special characters without the need for any extra processing.
How can I add a kMDItemWhereFroms attribute to a file?
