As I said, the lock symbol simply means the page is encrypted in transmission. The URL also begins HTTPS. There is a lock symbol for discussions.apple.com because the page is encrypted before being sent to your browser. The lock symbol does not mean the page is locked in your browser. To close the page just tap the icon at the bottom right in your browser, then tap the "x" on the page you want to close (assuming you have iOS 7).

I don't understand your question. A lock icon on a web page simply means that it uses SSL encryption. It has nothing to do with locking the page in your browser.
Old topic. Sorry. I am constantly clicking on the "show certificate" lock icon in the URL field by mistake. The need to show a certificate is way down on the list for most people, which makes this icon way too prominent and easy to mistakenly click on. I can't find anyway to hide this thing. Do you know of a way?
I have google search engine in Safari and a web page stays open with a lock symbol just before the typed search and I can't remove that page. I can type in to go to another page but the page with the lock always returns. In fact there is a lock just before the typed search for this page (lock symbol then discussions.apple.com).
