DNS names keep "flikkering" randomly in Apple Remote Desktop

Hi there,

Since the update to ARD 3.7 all my DNS names keep 'switching' randomly between the several Computers (14) i have in the network.

On site.. if you open ARD you see the DNS names changing every second or so.. to a random other name, which is also in the network. Often there are to the same DNS names (the computer name stays stable)

This wasn't the case in ARD 3.6.2.. and as a result .. is is now very hard to work with the machines via a remote VPN.. (it works but is is terrably slow)

any how i searched the net.. and one conclusion:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4190442

that nothing is wrong.. is not a good and correct answer in my opion..

because i have really seen working remote with ARD through a VPN tunnel (wich have not changed.. the only thing changed was ARD 3.7 and Maverick on most machines)

Any how.. i any one out there has any suggestion.. please let me know..

(its a 40 minute drive to the other place 😉 every time)

Yeah, it seems the preferences file for ARD gets corrupt very easily after you start adding machines, it works fine for a little while (resolving DNS does not work at all though) and then it starts corruping and chewing up RAM, flickering clients offline/online

I now even have random clients on different IP range showing up in may scanner which is set for another IP range, and its flickering between real IP and the IP for the actual machine found in that range,

ARD is offically broken by Apple themself and I they need to address this urgently, which unfortunatly I dont believe they are so dont expect this to be fixed in any near future..😠

After you reset the lists and stuff its fine for me for a week or so from day to day even with quitting out of ARD Admin. It seems things really get screwed up after the weekend. So Monday's are fun!!

We have our DHCP to expire leases set to 1 day.

Someone on the Macenterprise lists said setting it to 72hours has helped. There is still some type of issue and Apple needs to fix it, just hope its sooner rather than later.

I'm tired of going around and turning on all the computers and having to delete them from All Computers in ARD Admin and setting everything up every week.

I also have nothing really to add, but I am having the same problem. I completely removed Apple Remote Desktop and reinstalled it, same issue persists. Not only do my computers have unstable IP addresses (according to ARD), most of them share a DNS name of a client's iPad who hasn't been to my office in six months.

Why would they release something knowing it cannot function for its main purpose?

Thank you Daniel

I had this problem for ages tried everything from Static IP's ( over 100 macs) static DNS's , same VLAN ... to asking apple specialists ... and apple itself... nobody knew how to fixe this....

The answer was .. Yeah thats how ARD is.... Really?????? Last time Apple Technician stopped responding to my emails.....

And only after your post I can work without running betweeen university buildings again 🙂

Thank you, thank you thank you....
