Since upgrading to Mavericks, I have been unable to sync devices (specifically ipad mini and iphone 4s) to my MId 2013 Macbook Air. They wil rapidly connect and disconnect, and I'm unable to do anything with the device. This happens with both USB ports. Any suggestions?

I contacted Apple Support, they told me to reset SMC, then NVRAM, but still i am facing the problem.
google "usb hub". just buy one of it. connect macbook > usb hub > ipad/iphone.
Unplugged all other devices before plugging in the iphone worked for me.
If you are using the Xcode or iOS Simulator, turn it off.
This was the unfortunate solution to my issue as well.
I had the same problem & have tried all these solutions, finally I found out what helped was to connect two apple devices (iphone 7 and X) at the same time to 2 different usb!!! It worked :)
The only solution has worked for me was to connect iPhone (or iPad) throughout external USB hub. Mac immediately connected with my iPhone without a problem.

I bought a belkin duratek cable and work now. This cable is better than the apple’s cable
