airplay mirroring keeps cutting out when watching apple tv from a macbook pro

I have an iPhone 5, a mac, iPad and Apple TV. The same thing started happening to me and it was very frustrating. I listen to a lot of overseas radio through my iPhone and iPad and use airplay to take advantage of my TV's speakers so others can hear. I've read through the various solutions, but only tried one thing: Set auto-lock to "never" on my iphone and ipad (settings), and on my apple TV set screen saver "start after" to "never" (settings > screen saver > start after). This seems to have solved the problem on all devices. I've been streaming for almost an hour with no outages -- used to happen every 5 or 10 minutes. I have a FIOS router (Frontier Communications) hardwired to an aiport extreme. Glad I didn't mess with that or any of my WIFI settings.

Had the exact same issue as you have.

My Apple TV sometimes just wouldn't even pop up as an airplay option.

The problem is most likely not related to your MacBook or Apple TV but the the network.

I had an access point with bad range and replaced it with a better one to improve my network and ever since,

I'm having no issues mirroring what so ever.

Hmmm I asked the place where I work and appereantly some Apple TV's have networking issues.

Try changing your energy saver settings. Make sure the macbook is plugged in and change both display and computer sleep to never. When your display goes to sleep airplay will shut off. I don't watch a lot of tv on airplay from my mac, but this works for when I'm streaming radio or music. I suggest getting a cheap iPod touch (with airplay) on craigslist if you don't have an iPhone. I've seen them as low as $30. Then get the Air Video app ($3) and the Remote app (free). These two apps take care of all of my tv/movie watching needs.

If your appleTV is too far from your wireless router then you will have trouble using any of these features. Try purchasing an extra long (100') cat5 cable from monoprice.com and moving your router to a more central area of your house. You can even put a second router in your home using this cat5 and get great internet connection everywhere!

I have updated my energy saver to go for 3 hours and updated both laptop and apple tv and it still cuts out of airplay after 5 minutes.. I am on wireless extreme internet in my home country and 4m from my router. I am ready to toss the apple tv out a window.

Bump for this thread. This problem is ridiculous and should easily solved without having to resorting to messing with any of my Macbook or iPhone's power saving features.

Would really appreciate some more suggestions or better yet a solution. I just know if I go into the Apple Store tomorrow they're not going to be able to help out with this either.

Right, so that didn't help much, in fact it cut out the Apple TV display even quicker than ever before!
