Can't use Internet Recovery

Purchased a used iMAC 21.5-i5-500HD about a month ago. Called Apple Support about a couple of issues and they had me erase the HD and reinstall the OS(Lion10.7). Nobody realilized until it was to late that I wasn't the original owner and can't download from the APP store because I haven't purchased OS X 10.7. Any way to get the OS back on my machine. Anyone out there willing to let me borrow their Apple ID who has purchased Lion 10.7?

I wonder if it could be a slip-in disk?

OS X Snow Leopard was the last version of OS X that came as Install DVDs with a new Mac, as well as the last version with a retail DVD. But since OS X Lion was the first MAS version of OS X and the newest version of OS X usually comes with a new Mac after the new version has been made public, Apple may have made disks of OS X Lion to slip into the box with a new Mac that shipped from the factory with OS X Snow Leopard installed, but sold after the release of OS X Lion and before Macs shipped from the factory with Lion.

I didn't say that you got it with a system. I was thinking out loud about how this disk may have come into existence for it to ba available to you. Apart from the MAS download, Apple only ever sold Lion on an expensive USB thumbdrive. Because most folks here who want OS X Lion don't get sold or sent a disk, they get sold a redemption code to download Lion from the MAS.

maybe somebody created an install dvd for 10.7

but it would not have an apple cover / artwork

unless the creator has trying to impress someone or sell them as ''official apple''

officially no discs of lion were released. not even in rumors …

there was a usb drive with the lion installer but since most preferred the apple store method (which i do not like as long as it is the only source to redownload your OS - i prefer physical media and that's why you have to create a bootable dvd/usb) they stopped selling it .

it would be better if they offered a combination of physical media and apple store

like you buy the disk and you put your apple ID and you have it available through apple store to download but you always keep the disk.

we would not have the trouble of making bootable dvd's (L,ML) and usb drives 10.9 / 10.10

so let me get it …

did you purchase os x 10.7 ?

or did apple gave you a redeem code ?

because you say that you did not have internet recovery and did not purchase the OS

even if you bought the OS on another mac , unless you made an install dvd / usb drive you would not have any way to install it since your mac does not support internet recovery. am i right ?

so apple gave you a code and you created an apple ID of your own then redeemed that code in the mac app store in a mac in an apple store and then your iMac was able to download 10.7 Lion and install ?

that sounds like internet recovery …

but you said you purchased it digitally (the only way to get 10.7) and you redeemed sth in another mac

that part i do not get.

and might be useful to me someday that's why i ask
