Please help!!...At&t 2wire and Time capsule

I've been researching my problem for hours and have spent way to long on the phone with ATT and Apple. I was wondering if someone could help me with my setup (give me exact instructions) of my new AP 3tb time capsule and my existing att uverse 3801hgv 2 wire modem. I want to disable wifi and make everything run through the time capsule so I can take advantage of all the features. I know some of these setting will have to be made from

http://192.168.1.254 website. To make things easier, I reset the 2 wire device to factory settings and did the same with the time capsule. I'd like to get the settings all set up on the 2wire end and then plug in the airport time capsule and set up network and everything from scratch there. I'm assuming if 2wire stuff gets set correctly everything will fall into place easier when I plug in the time capsule for first time. I'm not very familiar with Wifi/networking terms but would greatly appreciate if you could help me solve this issue once and for all. I am running OSx 10.9 and airport utility 6.3.2. Because we will be disabling the wifi and I will need internet connection, I have run an ethernet cable from the 2wire box directly into my laptop, which I will later use as the ethernet cable into the time capsule. Thank you so much!!!!!

The problem is you may not be able to turn off routing function in the uverse modem.

Does the uverse provide phone or tv service to your home.. if so it can be very difficult.

There is nothing wrong with using the TC in bridge.. when you say you are missing facilities in the TC what facilities are they??

The TC is absolute min router... in bridge it works perfectly well as a wireless AP and network hard disk. The uverse provides dhcp and NAT just as well as the TC can do.

If you are so concerned about it .. from what I understand the uverse router can place the TC in DMZ.

Here is one set of instructions for DMZ.. I am not sure if it is the right one.

You need to understand what DMZ does.. it allows you to run two NAT routers with less issues.. not none.

A DMZ will forward all incoming unconnected packets to the TC which is unprotected from internet.. and leave all firewall issues to it.. but it is still using NAT on the 2wire and will still cause NAT issues if the table is filled up.

Please go ahead and get the 2Wire gateway set up and working normally. Since this is an ATT product, you will need to get in touch with ATT support regarding questions on this device.

Post back when you have the 2Wire fully operational, then we can tackle the Time Capsule. The setup is straightforward, with a "wizard" guiding you most of the way, but we can go step by step as well.

When the Time Capsule is working correctly, then you can go back in and turn off the wireless function on the 2Wire....or...use the 2Wire network as a Guest Network if you wish. Any changes at this point to the 2Wire will need to be coordinated with ATT support.

Note....when the Time Capsule is connected to another gateway, like a 2Wire, you will not be able to use the Guest Network feature on the Time Capsule. Only the Time Capsule "main" wireless network will be operational.

So, to summarize.....I suggest a simple, reliable setup.

1) Make sure that the 2Wire router is fully operational. Keep the Time Capsule powered off for now.

2) Configure the Time Capsule in Bridge Mode so that it will work correctly in tandem with the 2Wire gateway.

3) Make any final adjustments to the 2Wire gateway once the Time Capsule is working correctly.

Post back when you have completed Phase 1 and you are ready to begin Phase 2.

darbnora changed plans and never asked for follow up. I have a very similar situation as addressed in Bob Timmons' 4NOV2013 post.

Current configuration is: 2Wire 3600 HGV Modem/Router/ATT Gateway running. Connected via ethernet are two iMacs and an Apple TV. Wireless connections include Macbook and iPod. All is running smooth.

Desired configuration is: 2Wire 3600HGV acting as modem. Downstream from this is Time Capsule, which will provide ethernet and wireless LAN for above machines and USB to printer.

The 2WIRE 3600 is the gateway ATT is shipping now (Jan 2014) for internet/phone service connections. I do not use ATT for TV.

I gather I will need to disable the router and wifi functions on the ATT gateway, and pass through to the TC WAN port. Figuring out the many user settings on the gateway to make this happen is my challenge.

Disabling the wifi on the ATT gateway is straight forward. From looking at several forum discussions on ATT site, it appears 2WIRE does not have 'bridge" option. Instead there are settings called DMZplus and Cascaded Router. I've got a post going over there looking for guidance.

Meanwhile, back here in "Appleland", I'm looking for confirmation that once I have a pass through signal, I can indeed just bring it into the TC and have it serve as my household gateway.
