HP Scanjet 5590 does not work after installing OS X Mavericks

I do have the same problem. There are intense discussions in the HP Fora, so many people cannot get their HP scanner to work with OS X Mavericks.

When I last checked there was no solution, so we need something fast.

I too have started having problems with my HP Wireless Printer scanner since loading Maverick. This HAS to be sorted out soon hasnt it??

have spoken to HP and they have the new software downloads on their site to combat this problem.

Thanks SuzyQ for taken the trouble talkin to HP. Do you have any link? I tried some links at the business page but did not find anything useful. Probably we have to be patient.

Same problem with my HP Scanjet 4850 and none of the posted workarounds worked.

I found a solution that works for me:

On that Mac I use Parallels to enable a Windows only app to work, so I installed the scanner under Windows and it worked fine.

Not often that Windows has the answer but this time I was thankful for it as I was really stuck without the scanner working.

I could really do with the issue being fixed for Mavericks but until then at least I have a working solution.

Any word on the HP site link?

I'm not sure everyone is having the same issue. From looking at different forums, I can gather that there are at least three different issues people are reporting:

• Users are unable to save the file
• Users get a blank or black image when scanning, although the preview looked fine
• The scanner isn't detected at all (I have this issue)

Hopefully there will be a fix soon, as I have tried pretty much everything: re-installing the drivers both from Apple and HP, using the CD I got with the scanner and thirdparty-software (Vue).

I am having similar issue with my HP Photosnmart B110 series, it scans the preview is normal but the printed scan is a blank page have attempted to use Image Capture but shows a connection error. I have managed to get round the issue as i have an iPad air with HP Print App so I can scan and save in the App.

This is an unsatisfactory solution as it is not addressing the issue with Mavericks.

I notice that 10.9.1 is in beta but there seems to be no mention of a fix for this problem.

I've learnt a lesson about being too quick to install new software and will hold off on future releases.

The work around using Parallels is still operating for me but I would prefer an OSX fix.

2 months since I found this problem and I'm still having to use Parallels as a work around.

Anyone seen an Apple fix for the Mavericks / scanning issues yet?

Hi! I downloaded and installed the much earlier software for OS X 10.3 10.4 & 10.5 and my Scanjet 4850 now works again on 10.9.2

Why HP has not used this or Apple suggested this I don't know. It's old software but it works!

This worked for me too. Though the interface is not as advanced but I can use my HP Scanjet 8270 once again.
