Iphone 4 charge but doens't play music in sony dock station

For me the issue is the connection. It charges ok but I have to maneuver the phone around on the dock (with the docking adaptor removed) in order to make the full connection and play. At that point, all functions work with the dock and remote. But as soon as i release the forward pressure, it stops playing. So it must be a parital connection that allows it to charge without playing.

This worked for me as well much to my joy!. As far as blaming Apple for the problem, I have an iPhone 4s, and an iPod that is about 4 or 5 years old. The iPod hasn't had a software up date since I don't know when. One night I was taking the iPhone off the dock, after I had been listening to it,and replaced it with my iPod. The sound didn't work with my iPod, and no longer worked with my iPhone either. Therefore I can't blame Apple software updates for my particular problem.

Thank you, I had a similar issue with my iPhone 5 since I did the 8.3 update and my Sony stereo dock. I restarted the phone and tried what you suggested and everything works fine now.

I have the same problem. Iphone 4S used to work great with docking station, but no longer does. Here is what I have:
1. IPhone 3G and 3GS do work fine with the sony docking station, same as always

2. iPhone 4GS does not play through sony docking station

3. iPhone 4GS does not play through ANY other docking stations that I tried. One of them is my own surround system, with which it used to work.

4. iPhone 3GS still works through my surroung system

5. Tried all the tricks that apple and users suggested, including software updates, restarting, start playing before docking, reset docking station, jump three times and pray two holy Mary´s before docking... you name it.

I do not know what happened, but my first guess would be a messer-upper software update at some point (I wouldn´t know when, it WAS automatic). I am very displeased, and I am not getting a new iPhone until this issue is properly addressed. All indicates that Apple, willingly or not, downgraded my 500 dollars product, and has not done anything to fix it. I would try small claims for it, but I will not be in the US for a while! Used to love Apple products, although I always knew that they limit what their 'physical' products can do, so they can get more money for other online products (Apple TV being the best example!), but, sadly, this time it is a new low...
