I have followed up again via email but no response as yet from the Apple Advisor handling my case. Will request for a call back on Monday via the chat session (as it is Saturday now). I also just upgraded to 7.0.6 and after the install the issue is still present.
You can go to the Genius and see what they say - good luck!
Dear jn999,
I have the same problems do you have any clue?
What does this have to do with the issue reported here? I don't see any mention of it related to the 7.1 update
7.1 fixes it.no more booting problems with mine
Well ....
I just downloaded and installed 7.1 on my iPad Air. The cold boot to the startup screen going black is still there albeit it does stay up for a few extra seconds and then goes black. You still need to press the home or power button to bring up the startup screen to "slide to unlock".
I am waiting for my Apple Care senior advisor to recover from his illness - have sent an email to check on the status of my case. He is the 4th senior advisor I have had handling my 'escalation' since early December. Will post as soon as I hear from him.
I have updated the software to 7.1 on my IPad Air today and am pleased to say that the issue I had with the slide to unlock screen seems to have been resolved. I will obviously monitor it but so far so good. I do hope that you are eventually able to resolve your situation Bulaviti. Keep us informed. Not sure why the software update did not help you.
Thanks Tunpipe. How long does the home screen stay up for you before it goes black or does it not go black at all in your case?
Will post after speaking with the senior advisor - overnight I received an email that yet another advisor (5th) has been assigned to my case and I will be called.
Hi Bulaviti,
The slide to unlock screen is staying visible and not going black at all.
The behavior of mine has definitely changed - I counted roughly 6 secs on the unlock screen before mine went to sleep/dark whereas before it would simply flsh i.e. sub second with no time to slide to unlock. I don;t know that I call this fixed.
It's odd that there are still discrepancies in behavior and that the update is yielding different results with different units but it's a pretty strong indication somethign's still not right with these ipads. Speaking of right, does anyone knwo what the behavior SHOULD be upon startup???
Hi again Bulaviti,
Sorry but when I last booted up IPad Air, the slide to unlock screen stayed visible for about 7 seconds, which is long enough to access it, before going black. Sorry for confusing info. The question is still whether this is how it should be. With this being my first Ipad, I have nothing to compare it with.
I just tested an iPad 1 that a co-worker has here @ work. It has iOS 5.1 running and the screen does go black after a cold boot - the home screen displays for over 5 secs allowing one to swipe to unlock.
Seems fixed to me then, this 5-7 seconds displaying the lock screen before going dark seems to be the norm. That's all I wanted, a chance to ulock, whcih I wasn't getting before the update. It wasn;t all that big a deal before but aggrevating that it didn't seem to be right and that there wasn;t much reliable info to be found, or help from rotten apple support...
I had one of the first Ipad Airs that was released. It had the same problem with the dissappearing lock screen. After waiting to make sure the new update didn't cause more problems, I just did the update today. It seems to have fixed the problem as, like other posters indicate, it stays on for 7 or 8 seconds. More than enough time to get your finger in place to unlock.
Still not impressed that something so obvious was released, but with the mind set of moving on, it still is the best Ipad ever.
I have the same problem over and over again...what the **** apple read the comments and make a recall
