The way it works has changed. If you have a Group in your Contacts named 'Dancing' (for example), in Mail, when you create a new email to send to the group just type Dancing in to To field. That's how it works for me.
I preferred it when you could simply drag a group from Contacts to the Mail 'To' field. I guess it's called progress 😟.
I did the same as your instruction, but after I type the group name, the TO field would appear blank. And it would hang when I click close the window, no matter I click on save, delete or cancel.
You do not have this problem?
It works for me as described if I send to 'normal' groups, but it doesn't work if sending to Smart Groups. Are yours Smart Groups?
Here's what worked for me:
1. I selected my original group and then shift-clicked on the first and last member of the group so that all were selected.
2. From the File menu I selected "New Group from Selected."
3. This new group will work properly. Now delete the old group.
Here's what's been happening for me.
I get the problem intermittently. Before Mavericks, it would work all the time. Now, when I have the problem, I type in the Group "LCA" and hit return, and either nothing happens or LCA just disappears.
Until today, I'd restart Mail and it would work again. But now, I can't get it to work at all, even after duplicating the group in Contacts, etc.
Not sure why.
This worked for me also.
Since 'Auto Fill' in the TO/CC/BCC fields of a new message by typing in the Group Name no longer works in Mavericks, I am using the Contacts button to select the Group (select all members of the Group) and hit a TO/CC/BCC button to fill the address line required.
Maybe in the future an update will put back the Auto Fill feature.
Yes, I hope so. A bit of a pain to ahve Contacts open and go there when you just want to do a group email.
Oops, Bruce--I misunderstood. I click on the + sign on the right in the To field, which brings up the contacts list, but how do I select all members of the group? Shift clicking or Command clicking doesn't seem to work for me. I have to double click each email address, one at a time.
Once you have the Group open, click the bottom (or top) entry. Shift-click the top (or bottom) entry. Choose which TO/CC/BCC entry you want. Or, a CMD A will select all the entries in a Group.
It still does not work like it did before (even after the update of Mail, mentionend in the previous post). However, you can have Mailings to groups.
I can't figure out how to multi-select addresses. Right-click or control click--nothing happens. I can only double click each address to get it into the To field, and then have to do it all again.
My steps:
-New message in Mail
-Click on the + sign to the very right of the blank To field
-That opens up the Addresses window.
-I click on the group I want, which lists the people on the right side of the window
-If I right click or Control click, nothing happens. The only thing that does anything is if I click on the actual address; then the address is added to the To field, and the window closes.
Ugh.
It's a bug. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.
In the meantime, the easiest way is to open the contacts application and right click (or control-click) on a group and choose "send email to group" in the popup. Mail will then have a new compose window open with the contacts in the "to" line. You can cut/paste the whole blob into the cc: or bcc: line if you want that.
That works. Looks like I'll be keeping Contacts open all the time now.....
