Ipad air low memory crash

Here my experience.

I bought my iPad Air 32 GB WIFI/LTE on 09 of January of 2014 in the online Apple Store in Spain. As far as I know the delivery was made from a logistic center in Italy.

Until the purchase of the iPad air I was using without any flaws an iPad 2 32 GB Wifi/3G. It's more I didn't know what an low memory error was until my decision to upgrade to the iPad air. What a decision? If I only had stayed with my iPAD2 :-(

I received my unit on 14 of January and From the beginning I had safari crashes and the corresponding low memory error in the diagnostics department of the iPad air.

I observe the performance of the iPad air about a week and after coming to the conclusion that there was something abnormal I went to my nearest apple store in order to ask the apple care tema to check my unit. They have done the usual things, reinstall from scratch and I installed the Apps one by one instead of the back up copy. But that didn't solve the safari scratches and low memory errors. I observe again the behavior of my iPad and two weeks later I decided to go again to the apple store. This time they decided to change me the unit. But as in other post here mentioned that also didn't solve the problems, currently I would say it´s even worse. A week later I visited again the apple store and report my case and again they start to install from scratch (I came to the conclusion if they don´t know how to fix something then they always reinstall from scratch).

I didn´t answer again for a replacement but they told me that that exchanging again the unit won't solve the issue and I should wait until Apple brings out an iOS update that fix the issue. They were not able to explain why on my older iPad 2 where no issues and on my new iPad air, in theory much more capable due to much more powerful hardware, I have this safari crashes and low memory reports. Furthermore I´m not sure if the guys of the genius bar are so genius because if you ask two different guys the exact same question you get a complete different answer.

iPhone 3GS 32 GB: immediately Safari crash and low memory error.

iPhone 4S 16 GB: immediately Safari crash and low memory error.

And now a test which knocked me down:

I tested also the mentioned web page on my Nexus 5 device and do you know what ?

Absolutely no problem !!!!!! No crash, no low memory error. I went further because I wanted to know how much storage it occupied in the RAM memory of the nexus, above 200 MB !!!!!

This is mainly the reason because the iPad air crashes and have so often low memory errors, because if it has only 1 GB of RAM and as all of us know only the system resources occupies a percentage of the RAM memory plus the background services/ upgrades and then if you also open a web page which occupies 200 MB of RAM the consequences are clearly .. . You will run into low memory.

Someone could suggest that couldn´t be Apple´s mistake if the webpage occupies 200 MB. And I would answer Yes and No,. If you have a webpage with a whole amount of pictures and you want it to reproduced in high resolution screen like the retina screen on the iPad Air does your also have to provide the sufficient memory to do so.

What a shame Apple !!! Less marketing and equipped with more RAM memory your products.

I really considering to make a change and switch to Nexus, at least the Nexus line up work fine and cost the half compared to the homologous device of Apple. Ok, the design isn't as premium as Apple but finally it works and cost less, much less.

True and sad! Tim Cook said We're not in the junk business! Well guess what? I dumped my 64GB iPhone 5S after years of being a loyal 'apple' customer and exclusive iPhone user because its junk!!! It restarts by its self! Safari crashes so often that I've stopped complaining my 128GB iPad air crashes and restarts randomly add to that IOS 7 brightness gives me headache! And months have passed without a solution! To my surprise my new Samsung Galaxy note 3 has none of the above issues which made me come to the sad conclusion that apple indeed sells overpriced junk!

I just saw today the Galaxy Pro tablet equipped with a 12.2 inch WQXGA screen 3GB Ram 32GB expandable storage,and octacore processor, not to mention Wacom digitizer and multi window supporting up to 4 simultaneous windows for true multitasking, not just background music.

Apple is not junk, the design is second to none, however I am very tempted to pick this Galaxy Pro tablet up even with all of its glorified plastic. Would I pick a Samsung laptop over a MacBook, hello no. I love the design of apple products but we can all agree Apple screwed up with two things here 1) iOS 7 optimization and 2) the fact that no amount of optimization will truly remedy the fact 1gb of ram on a mobile device in 2014 maybe enough for a 3rd world smartphone but no where near the requirements of a premium flagship device. Everyone I speak to with an iPad Air keeps telling me their crashes are getting worse, not limited to Safari. iOS 7.1 will be better but should we all merely settle for anything less than a reliable and premium experience from Apple we have all grown to expect, or has Apple simply taken advantage of their brand recognition. I will wait a but longer. I have been patient but if this isn't fixed by the final release of iOS 7.1 I will be migrating to the next best thing.

does NOT give any problem with my iPhone 5 with ios 7.1beta5 (I am a developer for my company). So be patient and wait for the incoming 7.1, this should fix this annoying issue.

Apple have really dropped the ball on this, iPad 2 and iPad air, crashes all the time and straight away on the 9to5mac website, but on my Samsung Galaxy s4 mobile, yes, you heard right, mobile, loads it fine, scrolls fine, can even load it several times.....

I have an iPad mini with retina 32gb wifi + cellullar.. which also crashing and lagging like **** on gaming.

which i dont understand is the game works fine on my iPhone 4s and my Samsung Note 8..

but on ipad it lagging, freezing and crashing like crap.

I've had exactly the same problems with my iPad air purchased in December 2013. The problem got progressively worse and at the point where I lost some important dats, I contacted Apple support online chat. They were very good I must say. After backing up, resetting and restoring dats, the problem remained. It was decided it was a memory fault and is now winging its way to Apple for repair or replacement.

My questions....

Has anyone else had their iPad air repaired or replaced due to this fault? Did it resolve the problem? I'm not too thrilled about a potential repair being only a refurbished iPad especially as mine is so new. They all are of course. I was also told that a replacement would only be guaranteed for the remaining time of the original iPad. As the problem was progressive, this doesn't seem so good.

If I'm not satisfied with the repair or replacement, do I have the right to have a refund? Worst case, I'd wait for a new model.

My iPhone 5s was randomly restarting from new in Oct. Had a new one given to me in December by Apple and it still crashes.

iPad has randomly restarted a couple of times. The Safari crash is infrequent but. ALWAYS happens if I use the site Geoguessr and try and zoom an image.

This problem is still disturbing me. Ive been lately examined these Samsung devices. I think selling this Air and get Galaxy Tab and maybe even new Galaxy S5 phone :D Im so bored these overpriced apple products that wont work anymore that it use to be before.. Apple has gone really down. It is no longer superior to other manufacturers.. Unfortunate...

Unless I am misreading your question and statements, I could not believe you had the "gonados" to ask it since there are over 103 pages of discussion, on this question, as well as answers--just no release of a fix. If you buy a new Lexus with a problem that Toyota is fully aware of but a cheaper, half-assed made car does not have the problem, are you and others really going to lower themselves to buying a Chevy? OK, so Apple can't be perfect all the time.

They have been made aware of the issue and will send our a fix when it's ready. BUT NOT BEFORE THEY'RE READY.

This "low memory issue" we all face, whether on iPhone 5s or iPad Pro, will be fixed or will be upgraded no later than September. So, what would rather have the beauty and quality of the iOS device, or one made of baked, plastic cow dung.

If you are with T-Mobile now, you are eligible for a trade in six months from date of purchase. If with any other carrier, 6 months to go. Since the problem, at least with my new iPad's "low memory crashes" started about 1.5 to 2 months ago, and my crashes happens only with iBooks, I will wait for the fix or the new iPad Pro w/keyboard and 12-13" screen space. We'll see.

I would suggest you take your own advice to act like an adult rather than call Apple customers who have spent thousands of dollars on multiple Apple products "wawawawa babies."

Yes i cant believe your thought process. This ios7 is a disaster and i cant recommend ipad to anyone, i own an android phone so i cant comment on those.

Low memory crashes are present since first generation IPADs...

Ther are deeply inborn in IPADs and IOS as a "design/market choice"...!
