All of a sudden, my ipad 2 has no sound after I downloaded ios7

I have had this problem with my ipad 2 twice now. The first time I was able to fix with 10 second hold home and the sleep button for reboot. The second time I tried everything that was in every thread I found including: cleaning charging connector, sliding mute button, soft reset in settings (even the reset choice that wipes settings and media), updating OS, disabling bluetooth as it could be connected to a speaker and few other things. The only thing that worked is a tip from someone in this support community which suggested to go to youtube and do a search by the microphone button (like SIRI type search). This will ask accesses to your microphone so say yes and the external speaker will star working. In my case the sound through the headset always worked, so check to see if you get that to make sure you have similar problem like mine. I'm thinking that this is old hardware/advanced OS problem and I predict it will come back to me soon. Probably few people have real issue with failed hardware and will never find a fix, but the majority are software related. Some will get it fixed with reboot or reset but maybe it's time to start looking into a new generation ipad!!!!!!!

Hi there, I had a similar issue where there was no sound from my iPad, this occurred after using the belkin Bluetooth audio receiver. I tried all the different methods described in other posts to no avail. A couple of days later, still no sound (except when adjusting sound level in sounds in the general menu), so I decided to reconnect the audio receiver via Bluetooth. I was able to get sound via the AV system. I then disconnected the Bluetooth again (via general setting menu), amazingly sound returned to the iPad. Clearly a software issue, very frustrating, but at least now I have sound again.

We have had all of these problems and have tried every solution recommended in the string above. We did the hard reboot, we reloaded the iPad, we even restored a previous backup version, we did a full erase & restart of the device which caused us to lose all of our defined network connections, we reconnected to a Bluetooth and then disconnected again. We tried everything. We even went to Apple support and they could not get it to stop failing. Within a few minutes the sound would fail again.

However, when I removed the Xfinity app from the device, no more sound problems at all. I have not seen that solution anywhere in this string. For those in the future who may have the problem, try removing that software. It fixed our issue. It would likely fix yours without going through all of the above headaches and colossal waste of your time.

Another issue that happens with the ipad 2 sound has to do with junk getting into the docker connector. Clean it out. Also, try connecting the cable and moving the connector around a bit while trying the volume buttons results in it working. Bend it a bit in that direction, and it may stay working. This worked for me.

I've been trying to resolve this problem for several days. Tokapeba's suggestion worked for me in a way. I went to General>Use Slide Switch To and found it set to Lock Rotation already, so I set it to Mute and the sounds reappeared! Whatever...I'm glad the sounds are back.

Bluetooth was causing this problem with my IPad. Tried all of the other fixes with no success. Turned the Bluetooth off and the sound was back loud and clear!
