Can someone please tell my why the old macs are faster than then new ones?

I had a white macbook from 2008. It was screaming fast. Fast forward to my 2011 MacPro Quad core and its actually quite slower in comparison to the Core2due from 2008.
MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
It depends upon the given application design. If the application is not designed to take advantage of 4 cores it will run the same as if it were a dual core processor. Thus if the CPU speed is faster on the dual core vs the quad core, it will run the application faster on the dual core.

And what version of OS X are you running on the old Core 2 Duo Mac? Is is Snow Leopard? Snow Leopard was/Is one of the best version of OS X Apple ever came out with. All the newer versions use way more system resources which in turn slows the system down.
LowLuster, greetings: Once the application has been invoked by the OS, the OS becomes irrelevant. What is important in the comparison is that the application and the data be the same. I have run this comparison on a dual core MBP verses a quad core MBP and have found that to be the case.

The OS is never irrelevant. It is always runnig on the computer and using system resources. So I have no idea what you are referring to when you say the OS is irrelevant.
