Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 13'' Wifi Issues

My new MBPR's wifi is very slow and constantly drops the connection, although it is showing that it is always connected. If I restart the computer it fixes the problem for a little bit then it starts again. I have a 2012 Macbook Pro on the same network with no isseues, and I will have to use it sometimes just to be able to browse the web. Is there any way to fix the issue on the new Macbook?

I have this problem too on my rMBP 13" late 2013 8G/256GB.

So that's not the wifi-stuck-on-wake issue (because you do get some traffic, at least to your internal network) .

If going through all those dialogs of buttons is a pain for you, you can also renew your dhcp lease with this command:

sudo ipconfig set en0 DHCP

[type your password if/when prompted]

A little different problem on my 13". My WiFi is unable to get an ip address from my Airport Time Capsule (firmware 7.7.3). All I get is the exclamation mark. This happened after a clean install of 10.9.3 and I noticed it first during installation then trying to connect my iCloud account. As of now I use static ip on my 13". All my other devices work perfectly. My girlfriends 13" (also late 2013) connects without an issue but that 13" was upgraded from 10.9.2 -> 10.9.3.

At work my 13" connects to WiFi with no problem.

I've googled and tried everything with no luck yet. Anyone got a tip?

Looks like I'll have to wait until Autumn for the Mavericks WiFi issue to be resolved.

Just to remind Apple how much of a farce this issue is. Due to constant buffering, failures etc., I had to stop using my Mac and start using my iPad to watch the England match last night. Utterly ridiculous for something so basic. Next time just get it right. First time. Particularly when it's something so basic.

Nobody said it was wake up wifi problem!!

I was pointing out what your problem isn't so that you can avoid the pointless excercise of trying sollutions for other problems.

That's why I gave one of the problems a name and refer to it; so that in the 500+ messages about wifi issues on late macbooks (pro, air, everything) when I say this or that configruation fixed or not my issue I also name the issue. Otherwise it barely helps to say anything at all.

RE Yosemite. Is the developer preview a full reinstall, an in-place upgrade (like what most people will actually perform on release), a partition or a vm? Yes we'd love to see the broadcom firmware version and the driver version.

FYI I had said that 10.9.3 resolved my wifi-stuck-on-wake issue, but it has ONCE recurred for me since. When it did my location was set to automatic, so I switched back to my new home location where I have only the wifi, thunderbolt, and usb network interfaces (none of the bluetooth ones), and I haven't seen it recur since then.

That said I have been having this other issue with 10.9.3 where the chromecast appears missing but only from the macbook. All other devices see and communicate with it. I'm talking to google play support on this and they can only figure that my multicast packets aren't getting through. Reboots and the like don't always work, but then sometimes like, once a week, it works again. So my feeling is the driver still isn't perfect. OTOH it may be something else, even a bad actor on my network (I'm looking at you HP laserjet 2600n network printer).

Re Yosemite: my earlier comments were removed by a mod for NDA violation. Odd, given that Apple has relaxed the NDA terms, supposedly allowing discussion of stuff already publicly announced at WWDC. Maybe they considered my comments 'public review'. Anyway, my keyboard must remain sealed for now.

It's not certain that non-beta users will have to wait 'till Autumn. It would not be unusual for Apple to release further patches for the current OS X version between now and the Yosemite release. And if you don't want to wait any longer than necessary, you can always help Apple test Yosemite by joining the beta seed program: https://appleseed.apple.com/sp/betaprogram

FYI. Your suggestion resolved an issue I was having with wi-fi. I used migration assistant to set up my new MBPr from an old MBP. But I couldn't change my wi-fi network. My wi-fi status said I wasn't connected. And under Network Preferences, it said I was connected via ethernet but listed my wi-fi network.

I used command-R, then chose Disk Utility, Verify Permissions. And this resolved my issue. Thanks.

I didn't zap pram, change settings, clear the smc etc. Just rebooted, and now with 10.9.3 which had that initial disspointment, it connected on bootup. And it has continued to reconnect every time I sleep and wake.

However I have not since rebooted again. Current up time (during which I've slept and rewoken about 3 times for 4-20h at a time depending, is 4 days, 12h and 15 minutes. I am affraid to reboot, or change any network settings, since, well, there's a chance it could behave again as it did on first boot, with the stuck-wifi-on-wake issue.

...

I said I'd let you know if it changes; and it recurred for me yesterday. I have not rebooted in 12 days, and I was doing fine for the first 10 of those days, so it's frustrating, and it's still on 10.9.3 with the new home location that used to be working reliably for me.

I've had my Retina Macbook Pro since Oct 2013. From time to time (maybe once every 2-3 weeks), I do find a problem with my internet connection. I move between my home office ( running an Apple TC from 2010 / 2011 ) and my remote office downtown regularly.

Sometimes, I open my screen and and attempt to open my browser. Many times at my office location ( running a Cradle modem/router), the connection shows full-bars but I can't get anywhere. Naturally I turn off / on the WiFi via the OS menu bar and it fixes itself.

On some other networks (one particularly at a client's location), I receive the Exclimation Mark WIFI symbol immediately. Sometimes a software "reboot" of wifi will also fix the issue. Other times, I have to change to another available SSID for it to actually connect without the Exclaimation.

What brought me here...

For the last 48 hours, my Internet at home has been botchy. Seems like packet loss... my Internet Radio (di.fm / sky.fm) has been dropping after 20-30 seconds of streaming. In fact, I noticed that even pulling up small files ( < 1MB) from my TimeCapsule network drive was taking up to 30-45 seconds. Accessing my email from Mail has also been delayed and flagged errors connecting to my Gmail account. Finally after a day of intermittent access, I started to investigate more....

Long story short, stopping and starting my WiFi (from the OS menu bar) fixed the slowness immediately. Searching "2013 retina macbook wifi issues" brought me here and I have been reading the history. I have not gone through any drive swaps at this point, but simply wanted to back up the fact that on the most recent version of Mavericks on a 2013 rMBP, the WiFi seems to have hardward-based communication issues from time to time that will continue to happpen until a reboot of the WiFi system is performed ( restart of OS or simply turn Off WiFi, turn back On from menu bar ).

[ Also note, other "older" Macbooks on this same network do NOT have issues, nor any of my iOS devices... nearly eliminating all of the various routers as the problem... seems to be communication / protcol with the rMBP WiFi hardware card or driver that causes slow pings / packet loss until restarted ].

So regardless what kind of wi-fi problem I'm dealing with, it is definitly a software problem?

I don't have any connection losses or anything else which other peopole described in this thread.

The only problem I'm dealing with, is that my connection on wi-fi is ver unconstant - sometimes slow and has around 20% paket loss, on ethernet for example I'm downloading constant with 1,5Mbit/s but with wi-if it drops between 300Kb-1,5Mbit/s, although the router is about 2-3m away (no wall between). Other wi-fi devices are my iPhone and the Apple TV.

Are you certain that Yosemite will fix this, because my MBPr is quite new and how can I be sure that it's not a hardware problem?
