Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 13'' Wifi Issues

My new MBPR's wifi is very slow and constantly drops the connection, although it is showing that it is always connected. If I restart the computer it fixes the problem for a little bit then it starts again. I have a 2012 Macbook Pro on the same network with no isseues, and I will have to use it sometimes just to be able to browse the web. Is there any way to fix the issue on the new Macbook?

All you need to do is change your wifi channel to 6

Having said that it's a ridiculously stupid bug and it shouldn't happen on devices that pricy.

Even more stupid, mine is a late 2014 version and not 2013 and the bug is still there.

Bluetooth can still be enabled btw, no need to disconnect all your BT peripherals. Thank god.

Now, obviously, when you are on public hotspots, you're back to square zero.

  • "As I started playing with it, I noticed that all my software updates and downloads were taking a long time to finish. I am paying for a 12 mbps high-speed internet connection with AT&T Uverse, but a speed test (www.speedtest.net) proved that I was only getting up to 4 mbps.
  • I did the same test on my iPhone and it yielded 10 mbps.
  • I did the same test on my PC and it yielded the max speed, 12 mbps.
  • Long story short, I fixed it by changing the Wifi Channel from 1 to 6.
  • If you are experiencing the same issue, you have to log into your router and change it as well.
  • First, you need to find the IP of your router. Open Network Preferences"

This evening, my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13 Inch, Late 2013) was giving me a hard time. It was dropping out for very long periods, and failing to come up unless I rebooted and then only lasting seconds. After hours of trying all sorts I noticed that when I held down the option key looking at the wifi menu that my country code was "GG" instead of "GB". I'm in the UK (Great Britain). After plugging in a USB to Ethernet adapter, it somehow managed to change itself to the correct GB entry even though I'd tried all sorts to make it switch! Since then it's worked ok.

I wonder if the automatic country detection is something to do with it. Next time I drop out I'll look at that menu and see if it's on the wrong country code!

I'm running a beta Mac OS 10.10.4. Wifi Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (7.15.166.24.3)

WPA2 Personal. 802.11n. Channel 36.

You may have a point here Ian.

I run into the same problem.

I set up my Macs using the UK set up and as I am based in France, it seems there is a conflict.

I changed it back to "France" in "English UK" we'll see how it goes.

Yet, some of my consultants have set up their macs as "France" in "French from France" and they have the same problem.

As I pointed out, the "channel" trick did it for me.

My bandwidth - despite the country issue - was multiplied by 10 ⚠

I had this same issue and spent 2 years trying to get it resolved. The Apple tech staff couldn't figure it out despite their best efforts. Eventually they agreed to give me a brand new 2015 model and I can tell you that it works like a dream compared to my late 2013 model. Lightening fast wifi with absolutely no issues. If you still have an Apple care warranty I strongly recommend you continue going to Apple until they replace your notebook or fix it. Their customer service to their credit is excellent and they don't want to screw you over. They'll usually give you a new notebook if they've exhausted all other options. Good luck and hope you get your computer running!
