I got my refurbished macbook pro today but iMovie and Garageband are not present. Shouldn't they be included?

Ah ok, actually I didn't order from Apple. Does this mean I won't get iMovie for free? It's odd because in the app store, garageband is listed as being free. Any suggestions?
It's free from Apple when you buy a new Mac and a free upgrade if you have the previous version (v. 9.0.9).
In your case, I think you're going to have to buy it. The latest version (v. 10) requires OS X Mavericks (10.9). Did your Mac come with that?

I downloaded Mavericks 10.9 for free from the app store. I can't see iMovie anywhere on my mac though?
Just installing Mavericks is not going to give you iMovie. You need Mavericks to run the latest version of iMovie, but i think you're still going to need to buy it.

Have you tried going to Purchases in the App Store and see if it is available to download there.
