Apple mail does not sync with gMail

Today my Apple Mail no longer provides me with my gMail in the inbox.

I can send mail to my gMail address and it shows in the Sent box ...but it never makes it to my Inbox.

If I log directly into Google Mail the email message is there.

This has always worked before.

Also, just now I downloaded and installed the Apple update for Mail ...which said it fixes some gMail account issues ..but I still have the problem.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Google have been supplying a non standard, unreliable substitute for an IMAP account since they started, it was poor then and they have yet to change it.

If you want reliability (without google nerds reading your mail and rummaging around in your address book) dump Google. If however you like that stuff, dump Mail and get a client that works the way Google does.

I started reading this post and after about an hour decided it wasn't worth trying to get Mail to work if Airmail would do it. So I paid my $1.99 and so far so good.

I even it like it as well or better than mail. Everything is syncing with gmail and with my iPhone. Not problems at all. Interface is fine.

Fingers crossed!!!

Let me say at the outset that Gmail worked fine until I began doing all of the upgrades necessary for Yosemite. Now, I do not receive my gmails in my "Mail" Apple app on my Macbook, IPad or IPhone. If I delete the Google Mail from my accounts and set up the account again, it works for a few hours and then stops working. This seems to be an ongoing problem (although with me, it just started). Please Apple, can you do something about this as I know you monitor these forums.

Had an interesting occurrence yesterday with OS X 10.9.4 and Mail. Have 3 Gmail accounts and iCloud. All of a sudden Mail has 2 new accounts with the same name as my IMAP accounts which weren't working and the new accounts were overpopulating. After a little investigating I found that in the Internet Pref panel I had checked iCloud mail. The computer had set up new POP accounts which I could boot delete.Unchecking mail in the internet pref panel fixed everything and my Gmail accounts are working fine. My SMTP accounts in outgoing mail were also not working and I discovered when Google forced me to change my password, I had also had to change it in my outgoing mail server. That fixed that problem. I know have Mail working fine until OS X 10 comes along. I'm sure that will screw everything up again.

I have been having the same problem and now I just go to Google Mail and get my mail directly there. It is a pain but there doesn't seem to be a remedy. I am hoping when Yosemite is released all of these problems will disappear. I've also experienced not receiving mail from my AOL accounts. I hope Yosemite fixes everything because I am seeing a lot of problems in a lot of my apps, including MyFitnessPal no longer synching with MapMyRide. I have to manually add the information. Bummer. But I am hopeful.

Hi

I have been strugling with this issue for days. I found a solution and it is the following:

When you add a new gmail account, choose "other mail accounts" from the list and input gmail sitting manually. Write down you information, then save the changes. It still not work with you. Then go to "preferences" in mail menu, click on the account you just created and make some adjustments: under "Advance" check "use SSL" and write down 993 for the port. For the outgoing mail server check "use SSL" again and write 587 for the port.

Hope it solves the issue for you.

Dear Problem solvers....

I'm coming into this thread late but I have found many solutions to many problems in these threads.

I spent hours yesterday getting my Gmail account linked to my Mac Mail without success, until today....

I am running an iMac 7 with Mac Mail 4.6 with Snow Leopard so I suppose I am running an 'old' system in Mac terms.

Having enabled all the usual IMAP settings in GMail, Mac Mail Client wouldn't accept it until I switched the 'less secure apps' to ON.

The Mac Mail immediately allowed me to add the account and auto filled most of the required settings.

I also unchecked the 'All Mail' in Show in IMAP in Gmail>Settings>Labels

I tried this as without it being unchecked (on my set up) the incoming mails were going to greyed out Archive file and not the Inbox in Mac Mail.

I hope this helps you.
