Missing Emojis

Noticed today that certain Emojis are missing from Messages... specificy the more "violent" ones (needle, gun, pills, etc) Anyone else have this problem? Seems kind of silly if Apple actually removed them from the desktop, unless I have an age filter on my comptuer I'm not aware about?

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.2

HI,

I would be using the little grey Smiley in the text entry field to see the options myself

I know this tends to show your last used/Favourites in the first "pane"

I also know there are other panes.

I have not used them enough to say any are missing.

If they are I would expect them to be missing in other apps as well.

Definitely missing here too. Everything else is there, ripped straight off the standard set..

It appears Apple has chosen to act as a nanny again to guard me from myself.. Please leave the nanny stuff to Nintendo! This is an adults computer, and I darn well have the right to discuss adult things with my adult friends (and enemies).

There are some things even adults would like to express more clearly using those emoji.

I hope they add them back, along with a raised middle finger. That one is sorely missing.

Right now I'm raising a middle finger salute to the Apple dev or manager who thought it was ok to push their moral choices over ours, in memory of Steve Jobs, who'd never have allowed that cr4p to happen. 😠

Hi,

A quick scan comparing the Bell tab in the Character viewer and th Messages pop out shows these missing that I can spot.

I am sure if I checked further and also checked the other "tabs" then I would find more.

The Name Badge and Bookmark hardly seem Nanny items.

I was wondering the same thing that you guys were and went on a hunt for those missing emojis. They're not actually missing, they're just hidden from the place where you might be using them, the messages app.

There is a workaround that is quicker than having to go to the character viewer utility. Search for the name of the emoji in the search bar that appears in the emoji pop up.

The names of the various icons that Ralph pointed out in order of appearance are:

  • Bomb
  • Pistol
  • Hocho
  • Pill
  • Syringe
  • Tear-off Calendar
  • Bookmark
  • Name Badge
  • Sake Bottle and Cup
  • Beer Mug
  • Clinking Beer Mugs

Search for each one by name, it should show up right away and once you use it it should remain in your Recent emojis so you can access them.

As for your comment, Jedi, I would imagine Steve Jobs is part of the reason why these icons were shielded. He had some strong moral values that he wanted conveyed in his products like the exclusion of anything pornographic from the App Store and his rejection of content that was overly profane or vulgar. Re iPhone (& not Mac), I notice the prior Big Green Dot is missing (iOS 6.1.6).

There used to be a Big Red Dot, a Big Green Dot, & a Big Purple Dot.

Now there's only Red, Blue, Black, White Big Dots (or large bullets).

Too bad as I liked the Big Green Dot as "To Do" & Big Red as "Done" & the Purple one for Misc.

Fine to add newer emojis but please don't remove any prior ones! Love them all & used them extensively on iphone as a type of "visual shorthand" & "word replacement" for faster typing & notetaking (& I'm no kid either!)

Check Wiki under Emojis listing & they have pics of all versions for iOS & Mac, Windows, Android, etc.

Hi,

It can depend on how you look at the Emoji set.

The Hammer, Knife and Pistol can be seen just over half way down in this Font Book view.

They are not accessible in Messages.

Hi.

I can sort of see why the jack-o-lantern and the Christmas tree are in Animals and Nature but it does seem odd as their use has effectively been changed.

Father Christmas is 18 items past the double eyes in the People category before the Angel.

Although it looks more like a cat with a red nightime cap on.
