I did a ful wipe & load with Mavericks, and since day one, the Trash icon doesn't change when files go in. If I right click, all I can do is Open and see the files there. The only way I can empty the Trash is by using this command in Terminal: rm -rf ~/.Trash/*
Files are definitely there, I can see them if I open the Trash. Any ideas?

This one fixed it for me.
I had just transferred info from a backup of my system drive to my brand new MacPro and the trash was full no matter how many times I empty it even with secure empty.

Hey - sorry I see loads of queries etc and didn't find the answer that worked. I've had the same issue and quickly fixed it by highlighting the finder, and going to finder > preferences > and un-ticking 'show warning before emptying trash' - this fixed it completely and I then went back and re-ticked it with no problems....
