iPad Air charging VERY slowly, sometimes "not charging" entirely.

I'm using the charger that came with the new iPad Air in a wall outlet, but it charges incredibly slowly. We're talking like 10% charge in about an hour's time. Sometimes, even with the same set up, it says "not charging" all together. I think it charges even slower when doing it through my MacBook Air. Is anyone else having this issue with their new iPad Air charging slowly?

I've bought iPad Air 16gb, I didn't charge it the day I bought it as it got almost 90% of juice. The next day I plugged it in using the charger that came with it, and it didn't charge at all. I connected it via USB to my Macbook, but iTunes didn't see it. I took it to the store, they tried using another cable and it charged, it turned out that the lightning cable that came with it was faulty and they gave me a new one. Now it charges fine, takes time though, but it stops at almost 98%, when I finally unplug it from power outlet, it shows 100% available.

If you are having trouble with your iPad Air charging slowly with the power adapter, verify the power adapter is rated for 12W. The iPad 2 power adapter is only rated for 10W and will charge your new iPad Air very slowly. The two adapters physically look the same but the markings are different. Below is a link to Apple's website that shows all the different power adapters, their respective markings, and which devices they will charge efficiently.

Hope that helps.

I bought my ipad air on Nov 20th and had no problems with charging until around the end of December. I plugged my ipad in to charge with the original 12 watt charger and it said "Not charging" on my Ipad. It can charge for 12 hours and get about 32% charge. So I called apple support and we reset the iPad and cut it off and on but it didn't solved the problem. So they made me an appointment with the Apple store. I took it to the apple store and they tried to charge it with some brand new chargers, but it still did not charge. They did not try another lightning cable though, but did say it was the iPad and they would replace it but there wasn't one available in the store so I'm waiting since Friday for them to call when it comes in. I've had every apple product there is and this is the first time I have ever had trouble like this. Never have trouble with any of my previous ipads. I would take it to the store and have them look at it. I'm just disappointed because this Ipad is practically brand new.

My new iPad Air that I got on 12/20 was charging fine until today. Thank goodness I read these posts. The problem is that I thought the chargers for my 5s and the were interchangeable and had plugged my ipad into the 5s charger. When I switched backed the ipad charger back to the ipad it's charging much better,

Now I just need to figure out why the ipad crashes from time to time.

Update from my original post from Nov. 24, 2013: Same ongoing symptoms/problem as described in original post. Today I scheduled and had in-store consult with Apple Genius Bar.

Root Cause was identified as a bad 12W Power Block. Original Lightning to USB cord operates perfectly. This was confirmed by me using just USB to PC docking station as charger and got rapid results ~15-25%+ per hour.

Sidenote: Iphone 5 car charger via lightning also produced excellent charging results of ~10%+/hour....Thats just 12V so that should never outperform the 110V/12W Power Block

Fix: Apple gave me brand new 110V/12W USB/AC power block, I returned to work and promptly plugged into 110/120V wall socket and charged my 32G iPad Air fully from 68% to 100% in 1.5 hours

Problem solved. I should have addressed way sooner but I had better things to do than wait in a Christmas line at an Apple store. I am happy now but this charger was like this out of the box since day one. Make sure you use 12W Power Block only.

I hope this helps other iPad Air users.

I recently got a new iPad Air (64gb) and was alarmed at how long it took to recharge it. The first time I recharged it, my cellular setting was on, I was downloading stuff, listening to music, playing a game, and (of course) the screen was on. Then I went to sleep, and when I woke up, it was just at 40%. Truly alarming. I was ready to take it back to the store.

Then I remembered reading somewhere that recharging an iPhone is faster on Airplane Mode. So I put the iPad on Airplane Mode, and put the screen on sleep mode, and left my iPad alone. It charged to 100% in less than 3 hours. VOILA! Problem solved.

Apple changed the form factor and specs of the ipad Air from previous versions. They should have changed the form factor of the 12w charging brick that came with the Air from the previous 10w ipad charging brick to prevent confusion. Printing "12w" in a tiny light gray font on a white background to indicate the power charger is different is insufficient.

I have the same problem (painfully slow charging)

I'm using the original charger and original usb cable and it all worked fine until recently and now getting between 4 and 5% per hour.

One of the reasons I have an ipad is because it was issued by my employer (sadly apple fans) and one of the reasons people use apple products has been the build quality/battery life etc..

Since Apple now aren't ensuring proper checks and seemingly don't care this will be great news for Samsung

We bought my daughter a Galaxy Note 10.1 and it has absolutely no issues whatsoever.

An excellent product - It also works better and I much prefer it!

Shame on apple

iPad Air charging VERY slowly, sometimes "not charging" entirely.
