iPad Air charging VERY slowly, sometimes "not charging" entirely.

I'm using the charger that came with the new iPad Air in a wall outlet, but it charges incredibly slowly. We're talking like 10% charge in about an hour's time. Sometimes, even with the same set up, it says "not charging" all together. I think it charges even slower when doing it through my MacBook Air. Is anyone else having this issue with their new iPad Air charging slowly?

Sorry to bump an old thread but I'm having a similar problem but I'm having a similar problem and I can't find the new thread button on mobile. I recently bought an iPad Air used on craigslist. Perfect shape no scratches or dings. Had it half a day and it started acting up. Now when I first checked it out it ran fine and was charged but after I got it home it would occasionally flash a blue screen when trying to sign in with my Apple ID and restart. Happened several times. I read online that may be a software problem with ios 8 and the air but I'm not sure. The bigger problem was it didn't come with the official charger and it's now lost all it's charge and turned off. I tried several different iphone and off market chargers but none would charge it at all. Now I've since read that you need the actual 2 volt charger for it but even apple says that the iphone charger should at least very slowly charge it but it's not getting anything.

My question is whether or not anyone thinks it's just the charger or possibly a problem with the ipad itself. Also if the flashing blue screen may have anything to do with it or separate problem. Thanks

HI forums, I see you all have a boss iPad Air and you say it's not charging, flip the charger box/adapter so that the USB port is on the bottom, then you will see a lot of text on the top. Make sure your charger is 12W and has an input of 100-240 Volts. If this did not help the problem then Try ordering a new charger here. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD836LL/A/apple-12w-usb-power-adapter?afid=p23 8%7CNBU8fc8r-dt_mtid_1870765e38482_pcrid…

Did you ever resolve the 1% charging problem with your iPad. My son's iPad Air starting doing this two days ago.

Whether being charged by the factory charger (I tried 3 different cables\chargers) or by USB3, it will only charge to 1%.

The only way I found to get any charge into it is to connect it to my computer in recovery mode and not recovery it but let it stay in recovery as long as it will. That is the reason I believe it is a software issue. If it charges ok when its not completely booted, why doesn't it charge after it completes the boot.

Please let me know if you or anyone else has some information for me.

II've got an iPad Air and have terrific battery life. I only use it in bed and it can last about 8 hours of YouTube and games.this week though. It didn't charge, so I checked the cable and it was broken. I've used two other cables with the same charger. One took hours to charge at all and the other does it a bit faster. Does the cable make a difference? My son repairs phones and tablets for a living and said most cables you buy from eBay etc are useless. But Apple cables are so expensive. Is there an after market charger/cable that is better than Apples?

In reply to LanceL58, I totally agree. I also agree with the assessment that the 10W is not the one that should have been sent out with the Ipad Air2 although it works. I find on the whole there is a charging issue with the Ipad Air2 and yes, it seems to be a "silent" problem. Too many people on here are having the same problem. I have had the problem twice.... first when I first got the Ipad, I used a non oem charger and cable with it and it seemed to cause a problem with the ipad. I had to go back to the original charger that came with it which was the 10W and it seemed to solve the problem. I then read on line that the 12W is the one you really should use with the Ipad Air 2, so I went ahead and bought the OEM 12 W being careful to use OEM cables as well. The 12W seemed to be a good fit and charged the Ipad Air 2 even faster.

Then last night started having trouble again. It showed it was charging (using the 12W) but would not charge at all even though it seemed to be charging with the little light, lightning bolt, etc. and little brick was warm, so power was going through somehow. Switching to the 10W did not solve the problem.

So, I had to take all the steps everyone states on here and more. I changed cables making sure it was original OEM cables and outlets. I then did the reset and it started charging but very slowly. Then I went on line and did the back up and restore on ITunes. That seemed to work and its charging like it did before (it was never real fast).

Here's what might have happened: I traced back and two nights ago had dropped the 12W charger onto hard floor and it hit it hard, so hard I thought maybe I broke it. The problem started occurring after this and I was even getting messages that it was non oem equipment and might not work. Then today not charging. Conclusion: the whole charging system and software is too fragile compared with all other charging systems and seem to be more software driven than Android, etc. I twisted the cube and saw it was a little loose from the fall and it seemed to snap back in and is working again. But because of the issue, it threw the software off in the Ipad Air 2 and it all needed the two different resets to get it all working properly again. I don't think that charging should be this vulnerable to flaws of this nature such as software or not syncing properly causing a problem even if you do drop the charge or use a generic charger. Most other non Apple devices don't seem to have these problems and I would suggest Apple make the charging system a lot more robust and non error prone than they are in view of being such expensive devices. Other not as expensive devices outperform the charging stability and ease. Make it simply electric to battery and keep all the software out of it. If the charger breaks then it should just break and not throw the device off. That definitely needs to be fixed. Thanks for the forum.

I have a 2 year old iPad Air and I didn't have any problem with it within those two years (except for some lag which is acceptable) but then suddenly, my iPad just started charging VERY slowly. I broke the cord that came with it last year so I used my iPhone's cord as a replacement but I broke it again so I bought a new cord from Apple. I'm pretty sure the problem isn't with the cord or adaptor because my iPhone 6 didn't change with regard to the charging. My iPad wasn't like this before when I bought the new cord, it just started charging slowly around last week. I tried restarting my iPad, deleting photos and apps (because maybe those might be hindering the charging i don't know really). I would leave it plugged in for five hours and come back to see it's only charged 40%. Is there a solution to this?
