In reply to LanceL58, I totally agree. I also agree with the assessment that the 10W is not the one that should have been sent out with the Ipad Air2 although it works. I find on the whole there is a charging issue with the Ipad Air2 and yes, it seems to be a "silent" problem. Too many people on here are having the same problem. I have had the problem twice.... first when I first got the Ipad, I used a non oem charger and cable with it and it seemed to cause a problem with the ipad. I had to go back to the original charger that came with it which was the 10W and it seemed to solve the problem. I then read on line that the 12W is the one you really should use with the Ipad Air 2, so I went ahead and bought the OEM 12 W being careful to use OEM cables as well. The 12W seemed to be a good fit and charged the Ipad Air 2 even faster.
Then last night started having trouble again. It showed it was charging (using the 12W) but would not charge at all even though it seemed to be charging with the little light, lightning bolt, etc. and little brick was warm, so power was going through somehow. Switching to the 10W did not solve the problem.
So, I had to take all the steps everyone states on here and more. I changed cables making sure it was original OEM cables and outlets. I then did the reset and it started charging but very slowly. Then I went on line and did the back up and restore on ITunes. That seemed to work and its charging like it did before (it was never real fast).
Here's what might have happened: I traced back and two nights ago had dropped the 12W charger onto hard floor and it hit it hard, so hard I thought maybe I broke it. The problem started occurring after this and I was even getting messages that it was non oem equipment and might not work. Then today not charging. Conclusion: the whole charging system and software is too fragile compared with all other charging systems and seem to be more software driven than Android, etc. I twisted the cube and saw it was a little loose from the fall and it seemed to snap back in and is working again. But because of the issue, it threw the software off in the Ipad Air 2 and it all needed the two different resets to get it all working properly again. I don't think that charging should be this vulnerable to flaws of this nature such as software or not syncing properly causing a problem even if you do drop the charge or use a generic charger. Most other non Apple devices don't seem to have these problems and I would suggest Apple make the charging system a lot more robust and non error prone than they are in view of being such expensive devices. Other not as expensive devices outperform the charging stability and ease. Make it simply electric to battery and keep all the software out of it. If the charger breaks then it should just break and not throw the device off. That definitely needs to be fixed. Thanks for the forum.
