Q: How to install front row on mavericks ??

You don't. Front Row was withdrawn by Apple with the advent of Lion.

I wouldn't of thought it would take a lot of effort for them to continue it though as it just federates iTunes/iPhoto like AppleTV does

For me, Apple TV has replaced Front Row although I probably used it more when it was on my Mac.

Sigh, those were the days.

The reason is simple: Front Row is not compatible with OS 10.7 onwards and cannot be made so. Instead Apple now offer Apple TV.

One reason might be that Apple is not supporting Front Row anymore because they want to sell Apple TV.

Another reason is that Front Row was an 32 bit application and based on QuickTime.

Apple replaced QuickTime with "AV Foundation" for 64 bit applications - and "AV Foundation" can only read / play MPEG4 and H264 movies. You can see this problem if you try to open movies like AVI or DivX (or MOVs which contain other video formats as MPEG4 and H264) with the "QuickTime Player" on Mavericks - it must convert the movie before displaying it.

So even if Apple would think about a new 64 bit Front Row, then you would probably not be satisfied because it would be impossible to play many movies without conversion.

Is there another App similar to Front Row that is compatable with OXS Maverick? And that will work with my little remote just the same.  I don't want to travel around with the Apple TV thing.

Copy these files from a snow-leopard installation (e.g. your backup) to the appropriate folders in Mavrick 10.9.2:

/System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/BackRow.framework

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iPhotoAccess.framework

Confirm the copy process by typing in your password when required. You can then change the icon Apple Script  to Front Row's icon.

Open Apple Script Editor and type in:

#launch Front Row

tell application "/System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app"

  launch

end tell

tell application "System Events"

  key code 53

end tell

And this seems to be a never ending story. For some people it works, for some not... Already discussed in "hundreds" of forum discussions here.

After you might get it working, the next step in other discussions is the compatibility to the iTunes library... and...

It might - and this is what we just want to say - it might be an idea to accept that "Front Row" is dead.

May be a "step by step" hint would help.
