Mavericks Clock Issue

Ever since I installed the new OS, the clock has had a serious issue: whenever the computer has been turned off, hibernating or on screen saver mode, and then reactivated, the clock resumes at the time of "deactivation". It doesn't seem to be a simple display problem, it's the internal clock. Even the time stamps of emails is screwed up. So every time I open my computer, I have to go the Time & Date settings in System Preferences and unckeck and check both the "Set time and date automatically" and "Set time zone automatically using current location" and the time is reset to the correct one.

I tried with all variations of these two settings unckecked and checked to no avail. Any solution?

This seems very odd.


I believe the "Set time zone automatically using current location" feature will resolve the location either via location services (which uses wifi) or via IP (which can be inaccurate).


I can understand if either of these features are slow to respond it may not be able to update, but it makes little sense that the clock fails to continue with it's own 'heartbeat'.


Since you have already tried each combination of settings I would go straight to looking at what is installed & running. Hopefully it will be a conflict with a third party peice of software.


Reboot into safe mode & see if that changes the behaviour. Some features are disabled in safe mode (like wifi on certain models) so you can only test what is working.
