How to insert page in Pages 5 document?

In previous versions of Pages, inserting a new page into an existing document was a trivial operation. In Pages 5, it's a total mystery. I opened a template containing text and images and played around with it to familiarize myself with the Pages 5; and somewhere along the line, I clicked on the Insert menu and discovered that the first menu option was "Page". So to insert a new page, one simply selects Insert > Page, right? Wrong! I passed this tip on to another Pages user who was unable to find the "Page" command in the Insert menu. I then tried to figure out how this option had become available in my test document, but I failed miserably. No matter what I do, I cannot figure out how to insert a new page in an existing Pages 5 document. Can someone please tell me how to do this? Thanks!

Not sure what you mean when you say "this is not right." I actually DID this, on the Pages 5 document.

The problem with inserting a new page in Pages 5 at least for me, is that it won't insert the page where I want it to; it inserts it at the place where it 'thinks' it should, or can, or who knows. for me, when clicked on 'insert page break' that turned out to be at the end of the whole document. so, i dragged that blank page on the thumbnails up to the place I wanted it, and it worked.

Hello guys ! good news for you: I have a found a TRICK / HACK / TWEAK / or whatever you wanna call it.

1. Backup your document just to be safe.

2. VIEW > INSPECTOR > DOCUMENT SETUP > uncheck "Document Body". Your text disappears.. don't worry 😉

3. Go to where you want the page to be inserted and click "Insert > Page".

4. FILE > SAVE

5. EDIT > UNDO. The document text comes back, the new page is still there.

6. Finally, just Insert a Page Break at the beginning of the new page.

= Voila !

I had a similar issue using a template. I wanted to insert a page, and retain the formatting of the template, as when I went past the two pages of the template, the frames were gone. After much playing around, I finally found a decent solution.

  1. Duplicate your file (Only if you have content you don't wish to lose)
  2. IN YOUR DUPLICATED FILE: Click FILE- "Convert to pages layout".

Now if you have "page thumbnails" visible (click on view, then show page thumbnails), you can left click on the page you wish to duplicate, click "EDIT", then "Duplicate Selection" (or Command D), and it will create a duplicate page after the page you copied.

Note: In the duplicated file, all your text will be lost, but the formatting of the template will be saved. I inserted text boxes in the columns, then copied and pasted my text from the original file to the duplicate file and voila!

Not too thrilled about the added steps, but am glad to have this work around! Hope this helps!

Pages 5.5 on a 2015 iMac with Yosemite 10.10

Caution: When I worked with the Apple rep, following his instructions, this worked just fine. After we hung up, and I tried it again on my own, it didn't.

After 45 minutes on the phone with two Apple tech support reps, I learned this is how to insert a page in-between other pages in a lengthy document that uses text boxes like in a newsletter:

(It's easier to insert new pages when creating a text-only document.)

At top of screen, select "view"; "show page thumbnails". Mini pages will show on left side.

Select "Documents" on right side of ipages document you're working on; "section"; "create new section" "after this section"

A new page shows up at the bottom of the thumbnails.

If the new page will go towards the beginning of your document, drag the new page to the top of the thumbnails list.

In the thumbnails, select and drag, one by one, the pages you want to come BEFORE the new blank page.

Your instructions create a new section, not just an arbitrary new page. You cannot drag a new section thumbnail, and place it in any random location within any other existing section, nor can you select any single page(s) within an existing section and drag them into a new order. Your new section, as created, can be dragged and dropped to precede an existing section, between two sections, or left as the last section of your document.

Another possibility is to select a page thumbnail within an existing larger section. You decide, ok, I want this page thumbnail to be the beginning of a new section. With that thumbnail selected, you then revisit the Document panel's Section tab, and from the Create a new section selector, you now choose Starting with this Page. What you see is a blank, single page section inserted between the preceding section, and the selected thumbnail page which is now the beginning of the next section.

You can Insert a page break within an existing section, but you cannot insert a new page as a separate entity to be dragged among its peer section thumbnails, or to different sections.
