How to insert page in Pages 5 document?

In previous versions of Pages, inserting a new page into an existing document was a trivial operation. In Pages 5, it's a total mystery. I opened a template containing text and images and played around with it to familiarize myself with the Pages 5; and somewhere along the line, I clicked on the Insert menu and discovered that the first menu option was "Page". So to insert a new page, one simply selects Insert > Page, right? Wrong! I passed this tip on to another Pages user who was unable to find the "Page" command in the Insert menu. I then tried to figure out how this option had become available in my test document, but I failed miserably. No matter what I do, I cannot figure out how to insert a new page in an existing Pages 5 document. Can someone please tell me how to do this? Thanks!

Yes, I am having this problem too. Unfortunately, the new Pages allowed me to add pages using the old interface until I saved the file. When I re open the file I can no longer add pages (except to the end of the document). All I want to to is create a new page, move the next to the new page and leave the image on the old page. There seems to be no way to do this! So I need to abandon all by edits, go back to a prevous version saved with Pages 4 and start from there! Luckily I saved an old version.

If anyone has a better soluton I'd love to hear it!

Well, I'm going to have to do that, it seems. The problem is that Pages 5 allowed me to do a bunch of editing (including adding blank pages!). It was only when I opened the file the next day that all the Pages 4 capabilities has gone away!!. And now I can't open the document in Pages 4. So going back to Pages 4 means I've lost all my edits.

As Peter suggests, your best bet would have been to stick with Pages '09. Once you save a Pages '09 document in Pages 5, you can no longer open it in Pages '09. What you can do, however—if your document isn't too long—is to either (a) open a new Pages '09 document, then copy and paste all the content from your Pages 5 document to the new Pages '09 document; or (b) if you no longer have a copy of Pages '09, you can do the same thing in Pages 5 (copy and paste your content from one document to the other). The trick is that only certain Pages 5 templates give you access to the Insert Page command. At first I thought all multi-page templates were included in this category, but that's not exactly it. You may have to try a few templates to find one that supports the Insert Page command. Apple should have their heads examined for the hatchet job they've done on Pages!!!

IT CAN BE DONE!

I am an avid pages user and with the new learning curve with the new version of pages (free maverick os), I decided i would push through the learning curve and trust that mac has some new updates for a reason. A few co-workers reverted back very quickly, as they do not use pages as often as I do.

Yes, there is always frustration with a new learning curve, and I have been right there with the crowd of Pages users, looking for 'HOW TO ADD A PAGE'.

I found a way to add one page at a time almost as simple as it was in the older version. Maybe one more step.

Under 'File' choose 'convert to page layout', the warning reads 'Are you sure you want to convert to a Page Layout document? Converting will remove the document body, including body text and inline objects.

I chose to try this on a copy of a document i am currently working on. I recommend working on a copy to be safe (in case you don't like the changes).

Choose convert. (it appears you can convert back to word processing later, if needed). I see no difference to my page....thus far.

NOW, CLICK ON INSERT, and the top pick will be 'PAGE' to insert one page at a time.

I hope apple will consider adding this helpful information in their help notes somewhere (perhaps on the top of the 'How to begin using Pages' page), as I could not find it when reading their help notes.

There are a lot of new tools that I am finding very useful and I'm glad I have stayed with this new/updated version of Pages.

Patience is a virtue....keep working at it!! 8)

That is not a solution.

1. It destroys any existing content

2. You lose the ability to have text flow from page to page

3. You can not have Tables flow across pages

4. You can not link text boxes across pages

5. You can not create T.O.C.

6. You can not create Footnotes or Endnotes

7. You still can not move pages, only delete them

8. Many more problems you will discover as you go along.

9. All for insert a new page (without content) that you could have had by inserting a section break or page break or by simply keep on typing.

Exactly what "new tools" are you finding useful in Pages 5? There are basically only two worth mentioning, object merging and object styles. In return there are over 100 removed, a lot of bugs many fatal to a job, and the prospect of not being able to open and recover your file at some stage.

It was a solution for me, for what I needed. It did not destroy any existing content, and i could revert back and forth (if needed). You may be right about more problems as I go along, but have not incurred any to date.

I dont have a need for some of the other items you mentioned, so i am sorry you are frustrated with the changes for what you do. I hope apple will have updates for you in the near future. Thankfully, you can revert back and use the former pages that does work for you.

The new tools I am finding are in the toolbar. I will only list the top few that come to mind. Image/EditMask and Instant Alpha, Exposure and Saturation adjustments and new enhance tools (i used to have to do all this in photoshop). If these tools were there before, I never noticed them. I like the new toolbar, also (I didnt like it at first).

Hope this answered your questions.

The new pages version works nicely for me. 🙂

"Avid user"?

All those "new" tools have been in Pages '09 for years, where they still work better.

Switching and changing between page layout and word processing does destroy content.

Which was given to you by the warning which you quoted yourself.

Apple gets a home run from the countless users it has recruited now, who have no idea what is going on so never even notice when Apple switches and takes things away.

Great for Apple! …and we wonder why everything gets dumbed down. 😢

I exported from Page 5 to 09 but was unable to open that document. I kept getting "unable to open document". So, I went to older version (thank goodness) in 09 and just went back to that.

However, when I called Apple support, though the person knew NOTHING about Pages 5, we did come up with a somewhat solution, which is this: when you go to insert page break, the blank page ends up at the end of the document. Then go to your thumbnail of that blank page and drag it up to where you want the blank page inserted. It is a total hassle and not worth it to me, but it seemed to work.
