I bought an HD movie in iTunes, I want to download the SD version .

This has solved the problem for me.

But is there anyway to do it direct to my ipad without needing to use my mac to download the SD then sync it across.

Such a simple request seems to be so hard!!!

This is the way you're suppose to be able to download the SD version of an HD purchase. However, for a few months now, I have not been able to do this. I've always been able to do it before, but for some reason, it stopped working. I contacted Apple, of course, this is not something that any phone advisor will know about because they are not knowledgable of the product, they just read off the same articles we can see online here, so they don't even know what I'm talking about when I mention this to them, and if you email iTunes Support, they're just quick to give you a refund without actually attempting to resolve the issue. Anyway, someone else mentioned that if you just click on the price of the SD version, you're asked if you want to buy it again, and someone else said you're asked if you want to download. I have seen both happen, and I'm not sure which happens when, but just earlier today, I was successful in clicking on the SD price of 2 movies and was only asked to download them again, and successfully downloaded the SD versions. This is something that is a problem with iTunes itself, not with anyone's specific Apple IDs or computer or anything else, it's just an issue with iTunes that Apple probably is not even concerned with fixing. In the meantime, you'll just have to keep finding alternatives. One way or another, I've found a way around it, such as these options, but also downloading the SD versions on my iPhone and Transferring Purchases.

Follow the steps listed earlier in this thread (page1) but also you MUST:

1. Delete and move to trash the HD version of the Movie.

2. Go to "downloads" and ensure none of the HD versions, or iTunes Extras HD versions, are either downloading or paused.

If you don't do this, iTunes will assume that you want to still download HD.

Yeah I know, I've been doing this for years. If you have the HD version in the iTunes Library, the cloud icon won't be there, and if it's downloading, the product page will show it as Downloading... I'm not doing anything wrong, it's just an issue with iTunes that Apple is not addressing.

Gotcha. I'm an iOS dev but if I were a Mac OS dev I could file a bug... :/

I've been looking to download SD films direct to my iPhone/ipad. The only way to download SD versions after purchased HD is to open iTunes store on your iPhone/ iPad, Search for the film you already own. Scroll down to the bottom where it say "also available in SD... change it to SD and then back to the top to the arrow on the right to download. bingo but if anyone knows a better way please tell me. i don't want to connect to the computer to download films

any thoughts when not even the SD version will play (2012 Mid Macbook Pro); After iTunes 12 / Yosemite, I can't even get a preview to work in iTunes store?
