Sleep/wake crash OSX Mavericks, Macbook Air 2013

Hi there,

Since the upgrade to Mavericks my 2013 Macbook Air had a few sleep wake crashes. The problem occurs when my air turns to sleep, and I try to wake it with the keyboard within a very short time.(1-3 seconds I think) Happened a few times when I was typing and accidently pressed the on/off button while typing(which is a really stupid feature in the new OSX if you ask me) and a few times when I tried to safe my laptop from going to sleep because it was idle for to long, and just got there to late. What happens is that the Macbook just gives a black screen, but is still on. I cant let it sleep by closing the lid, and the only way to get it running again is by restarting.(holding down the on/off button)

Couldnt find anything similar to this. So i'm hoping if this is a common problem with Mavericks and is on the list to be fixed with the new patch.

I hope you guys have some info.

Just out of interest, did you delete this antivirus software before or after updating your Mavericks to 10.9.2? (Assuming of course that you have updated to 10.9.2)

I was having the sleep/wake issue on my Macbook Pro after installing Mavericks, but it seems to be waking properly for me now, if that's any encouragement to those of you out there. I am nervous about installing the upgrade to 10.9.2 though, so i may wait a while to do that.

Updated and having locked up in sleep mode since.

That's awesome news man! Can I just clarify was you having the hibernation crash whereby your MBP would intermittently crash/freeze after sleeping for 3+ hours, requiring a hard shutdown to revive? (i.e. it would always wake up every time just fine on short sleeps)

I have been running the update since the day it was issued, and have still been experiencing multiple crashes/hard reboots daily. Everytime a report gets sent to apple. I've another machine running mavericks as well that does not have any issues... This seems to be isolated to my MBP circa early 2011.

Having exactly the same problem on a Mac Mini since the Mavericks software was released. Apple does not seem to care. I already upgraded to 10.9.2 but no luck, strange thing is that it does not freeze always, around one out of three wakenings from sleep. And I use F-Secure Internet Security 2011.

Try removing F-Secure and replace it with Avast! That helped me at least. Had an AV that took to much resouces and screwed with my memory. But now it's been working for almost 2 weeks :)

So is the issue now resolved? I'm torn between buying an older model or a new model -- I really want the battery life of the newer model, but the crashing on sleep wake up is a deal breaker.

I do not know about air, but MBP Mid 2012 still has this issue

Well, for me it seemed to work, I haven't had a hang in two days, so it looks promising, but it is still too early to celebrate I think. Another thing is that I find Apple rather arrogant when it comes to service those who have these issues.

I've no hangs since 2 weeks almost. But not due to the latest release from Apple for my MBP 2011.
