Mustek SE A3 1200 scanner no longer seems to work with Mac pro

Hi,

I have a Mustek SE A3 usb 1200 pro scanner and it just recently stoped working [I think it is since I updated to Mavericks.] I tried looking for a new driver but there is only one for mac for my scanner.

The problem is when I open Image Acquire and try to start scanning, it will start scanning and either freeze or crash and give me a "this programe quit unexspectidly" message. I'm not really sure what the problem is, howeever the fact that it started to sudenly and recently makes me suspicious of Mavericks, however it could be something else.

I would appriciate any thoughts, ideas, suggestions,

It is working fine for me under Mavericks. I have the same scanner.

I installed the "Scanning Module for Mac OS X" (http://www.mustek.com/product_resources/drivers/scanner/usbport/1200Pro/ImageAcq uire.zip) and the driver listed as "For MAC OS 10.4 ~ 10.6" (http://www.mustek.com/product_resources/drivers/scanner/usbport/1200Pro/SE%20A3% 20USB%201200%20Pro.zip).

Thank you for replying, after looking into it more it seems the problem[s?] are the TWAIN crashing and my macbook not recognizing the scanner. I've tried a couple of other programs and they all say I have no scanner connected. When I use image aquire it starts canning and then crashes giving me an error message, I can provide the error message if it would be helpfull, however it is around 21 pages, so if there is a specific part... I found some of my tests scans in the mustek Twain folder of all places, however I had not saved them there. I still haven't been able to find out what might have triggured this change, any help would be appriciated.

I have a ScanExpress A3 USB 1200 Pro which has also stopped working after moving to Mavericks.

ImageAcquire worked once, then reported "The scanner is not connected. Please check the cable." thereafter. (The scanner is connected.)

Drivers on http://www.mustek.com/mustek/supportdrivers.php only go up to 10.6 - from 2011.

I dearly wish I hadn't 'upgraded' to Mavericks.

In my experience with this scanner under both Mountain Lion and Mavericks, it doesn't work like a normal TWAIN scanner, in that only Image Acquire (and not Image Capture, Photoshop, etc.) can see the scanner. This was the case under previous OS for me. I even tried to install TWAIN SANE but that didn't help. However, it appears they have a new version that is Mavericks compatible:

you might try that. Mine works but I and dealing with a clean install of Mavericks, not an upgrade. That might be the difference.

The drivers on the Mustek website say 10.6 but they DO work for me under Mavericks.

I have the same scanner and cannot solve the problem. Can anyone tell me how to install drivers and programs from Mustek? Apple is no longer allowing me to install them because it does not recognize the developer. Please help. I need to get my scanner back functioning for work. I am also regretting upgrading to Mavericks.

in mavericks Apple added a new security feture, go to system preffs> security and privacy> and check allow apps from anywhere

This is nothing to do with security. Apple Mavericks currently does not support this scanner... so we either revert to Mountain Lion or get a new scanner or wait and hope.

Thanks for the tip about allowing programs. I changed my settings in preferences and I can now open programs again. Unfortunately this did not solve my problem with my scanner. I upgraded from mountain lion. I'd be happy to revert back to Mountain Lion so my scanner will work again, I just don't know how to do that and do not want to risk breaking something else. This is terribly frustrating. My scanner is essential to my workflow and I am losing time tiling together scans in photoshop.

As far as I know, reverting to a previous OSX requires you to revert to a Time Machine backup, but this also reverts everything on the hard drive, I think, so you lose new and/or modified files. You'll need an external backup.

The scanner's not so essential for me yet so I'm holding out for a solution.

I am stupid.

In trying to get the scanner to work, I realised the sticker on the back of the scanner read "2400" not "1200". The plugin installed - and which up till Mavericks WORKED - was for 1200!

Upon installing the specific driver for 2400, ImageAcquire now works. Is it possible this helps anyone else (is it possible anyone else is this stupid)?

Sorry to reply to myself again. ...Everything is not alright with scanner. Mavericks did something bad. ImageAcquire crashes and erratic behaviour. Looking to buy a new scanner.
