apple tv will not connect to my iMac anymore???

Model MC572LL/A which is a second generation according to everything I can find, AND also is among the requirements for the new iOS software release, refuses to work anymore after the update to the newest version of iOS. What happened to all things Apple, simply working together? Used to be, all I had to do was just plug the devices in, upgrade them to the most recent version of software and get the settings all setup, and low in behold they just worked. Can someone please tell me what else I can do besided what I have done already to get my A TV to communicate with my iMac so I can watch videos on my tv screen through Home Share?

Apple Tv has successfully been updated

Apple Tv settings has been set for "Home Share"

iMac 27-inch, Mid 20011 has successfully been updated

iTunes has been successfully updated to newest version

iTunes settings has been setup for "Home Share"

Besides the above, I have taken the steps of multiple sign outs/sign ins

This has been going on since the upgrade to the newest version of iOS and I can't think of anything else to do but come here for help. None of the help documents seem to help, because they seem to indicate ONLY the same types of steps that I have already taken. I would greatly appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks

I don't mind telling ya that I'm stumped as well, and have been ever since the free upgrade to OS X 10.9 and the new iOS version.

To answer your questions though, Yes, I have restarted the router. The IP addresses are as follows

MAC = 192.168.1.134 - Wireless N connection

Apple TV = 192.168.1.136 - Wireless N connection

🙂 🙂 IPv6??? Wouldn't that prevent me from any internet connection, I believe it would. 🙂

That's probably why you asked it isn't it? I'm typing this reply out on my iMac, but just in case I'm wrong I'll check it out later and report back early in the morning. I can't seem to find a way to check that at present and I have many more things I have to move on to.

Thanks again for your help. Again, I'll post about the IPv6 in the morning.

Ok, got an answer for you about the IPv6 and whether I'm using it. It appears that I'm not. I had to do a search on the internet in order to find out "how" to find out. There's is actually a site with the address - www.amiusingipv6.com which tells you one way or the other. So no, I'm not.

Interesting tidbit you gave me there, thanks. I've always thought that IPv6 was used on the LAN side of things and only IPv4 was used on the "Live" internet portion. I also learned that it's up to your Internet Provider to take you one way or the other IPv4/IPv6. Probably a good thing that they're not supporting it right now. 🙂

Thanks for your help. I'm still stumped.

Yes that's correct. I'm looking through some older articles I've bookmarked over time where users have found solutions in quite unusual areas. One area of note though is your security software, I've seen reports that some software needs completely removing and not just turning off, you might try over at the McAfee communities to see if other users of this software have encountered similar issues.

Sure, I can do that, but I don't think it will matter. I say this because everything was working perfectly prior to the updates of both iOS and OS X recently and now all of the sudden I'm having troubles. There is 1 minor difference though that I just now remembered, but it shouldn't make a difference one way or the other, at least I don't think it should. Prior to the updates and then the troubles when everything was working, my iMac was connected to the router via Ethernet, now it is a Wirelless N connection. Do you think that that would make some difference? Meanwhile I'll check into whether I'll need to uninstall McAfee.

Thanks

Ok, switched it over and made my mac wired, restarted the imac/router/apple tv and it still doesn't want to work. I'm just about ready to give up on this and just use the apple tv in conjunction with my PC instead of worrying about the iMac so much. At least I could view my purchased movies in the living room. I'm still wanting to figure out what's up with the iMac/apple tv home share though. I just won't fret over it so much. Please keep your suggestions coming and I will apply them to see if it takes care of the problem.

Thanks

Crap, forgot about your other suggestion of creating another user. I'll check that out and post back.

Ok, created another user on iMac signed into my regular iTunes account in iTunes and it is still not working. The exact same error "To access your iTunes library on Apple TV, turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer using "iTunes account name goes here".

I'm signed into iTunes on my imac with the same iTunes account name as I'm signed into on the apple tv. This is not working either.

You know what, it I thought it would do any good AT ALL, I would go out and buy a brand new Apple TV. But at this point I don't think it would make a difference. 😟

Ok, I've exausted everything I know of, read articles, searching this message base, etc...etc.., and I'm fed up trying to fix this problem. Thanks Winston for your help, but I cannot find any problems in the networking aspect of things on the MAC that could be causing this. I've given up on getting this to work and disconnected and boxed my Apple TV.

What in the world ever happened to the good ole days when all you had to do was just power up/connect a device made by Apple and everything just worked with very minimal effort in setup?

apple tv will not connect to my iMac anymore???
