Carriage Return in a Cell in Numbers (iOS)
Is there a way to do a "carriage return" in a cell in Numbers iOS?
The equivalent of "option+return" on the Mac keyboard.
Thanks,

I know this post got bumped due to a recently posted comment, but since it is up at top in the discussions, lets get the proper answer for the newest version of numbers for ios posted. Most of the answers posted below are for the desktop version or require a wireless keyboard.
The proper solution for the mosdt recent version fo ios numbers with no external keyboard:
You can insert the line feed at any point by using the tap and hold wherever you want to insert the line feed.

Yes, there is a way. Use the after a line of text, type the ampersand symbol followed by beginning quotations, the option/return, then end quotes. Looks like this:
"first line of text"&"
"&"second line of text"
Cheers!
interesting, i thought there was, but after looking i cant find it. dont think it is possible without wrapping the text.

I would concur. It doesn't appear that is an option in Numbers for iOS.
Bummer 😟
thanks guys for confirming.
I've worked out the answer. Open a new pages document, hit return, copy the return symbol and paste into your cell.
In Numbers '09 locate your cursor where you want the carriage return. Then hold down OPTION and SHIFT simultaneously and hit return.

Not in Numbers for iOS.
For OS 10.9.4 and Numbers 3.2 on my MacBook Air, this works for me.
Placing the cursor where you want the carriage return and then hold down together Ctrl and Shift and then hit the return key.
see above
If you don't have an "Option" key, Ctrl plus Shift is the solution.
Hi Phil,
The question is about iOS, which is different from OSX. Pull out your iPhone or iPad and check it out.

In addition to waiting for Insert to appear (press and hold the text entry field), just thought it worth a mention that it is also possible to insert a "hard" return in a cell containing text in Numbers using an external (bluetooth) keyboard. Option-Return works just like in OSX.
(so does Option-Tab, and "scooting" around the sheet using arrows and so forth)
[Sorry; stumbled on this a bit late...]
For anyone else looking for this... in Numbers v3.5, if you use control+option+return inside the cell and you'll get a hard return.
