whats funny is people here advising others to go try Dr.Web light to solve this problem, which is a bit WORSE then genieo when it comes to actually damaging your hard drive, it has a memory bug or should i say uses so much memory to share whats on your drive via backdoors, it goes straight to the ROOT.

Look at the screen shot, drwebd, user= root, using almost 1GB of real ram 20 x until your computer slows down to a crawl, if you force quit the processes nothing happens., only pulling the plug to the INTERNET stops these processes, i mean literally pulling the plug on the router, you cant even shut wifi off, i tried and it took 8 minutes just to see the menu and by the time it did it was gone in a sec.

Genieo whatever its called is a Israeli company, this is a news app reporting news, whether the news is from the media or about you is another question, my point has nothing to do with Israel, Google and other companies also do the same thing and have been for ages, They claim its customer research.

I'll let Kappy respond to this, if he's even monitoring the discussion any more, except to note that his first response was a general recommendation concerning malware. Once he realized the topic was Genieo, he changed his recommendations.

I'm not sure why you insist on discussion the problem you found in the forums you selected as it has nothing at all to do with Genieo or even Mavericks. It's a problem that deserves a detailed discussion with a slightly different audience, so I'd encourage you to start a new discussion outlining your findings and we can go over them there. Feel free to post a link to the new topic back here.

Everytime I shut down my iMac, its show a box saying that it is installing something(no name). It has two buttons, abort and "i forgot". And since I am turning of my mac, i cant press the button.....

I am worry that it is like sth running in the background.

And I...installed an Appware genieo before. I saw a suspicious folder came up in the application folder. I just trash it right away... I didn't know that there are removal tool at that time. And then I found out that my browser changed to an ad website.... So I changed it back to normal website... Is the installing sth msg box is related to Genieo??

I had the same problem, same popup on shutting down, after updating software on a brand new iMac . I had expert advice that suggested I download AdwareMedic (http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php) and it solved the problem. You might try it.
