iPhone 4s touch screen not working, but Assistive touch does

I have an iPhone 4s with iOS 7.0.1. My phone's screen is cracked, but only slightly, and my home button is missing. It has been missing for about 2 weeks but it hasn't caused any problems because I have been using Assistive Touch.

Tonight, my phone's touch screen randomly stopped responding. The confusing part is that Assistive Touch still works, every single part of it, and I can still pull up the bottom iOS 7 menu with the change in brightness and everything on it, but other than that it does not respond at all.

After I pull up the iOS 7 menu, I cannot click anything on that menu and I cannot unlock it or anything else. I can't even slide to power down after holding the top button. With Assistive Touch, it does not allow me to hold down both the home and power button so I can't force it to shut down either. I do not currently have the computer to hook it up to my itunes account, so this is a real problem. Can anyone help?!

Thank you so much. That worked, I forgot about the hard restart. I had half a notification screen and nothing else worked below that. First time it happened since the 9.0 update. Thanks again.

I Guess that it is a late reply but for the sake of othere this might be useful.

Hold your power and home button at the same time until the screen turns off
Let go of all the buttons
While the screen is black hold the power and home buttons at the same time again
Apple device (iphone, ipod or ipad) will restart again
Problem solved 🙂
