OSX Mavericks problem with cintiq 13hd

I recently updated my imac (27" late 2012) to OSX Mavericks and after that I have problem with my Cintiq 13hd which I connect it as the second screen.

Problem:

If I turn on the Cintiq AFTER the imac is already on, my imac screen will go dark and everything crash. Only way to fix it is to force the imac to turn off by push the power button.

On the other hand, if I turn the Cintiq's power button on BEFORE or AT THE SAME TIME with the imac, everything will work just fine.

I never have this problem before I upgraded to Mavericks. Usually, I would keep my cintiq off if I'm not using it and turn it on whenever I need to use it. If I do that, after I turn the cintiq switch on, the imac screen would go dark and go back up normal right away. Now when I do the same thing, my imac would crash and the screen would go dark.

Is anyone have the same problem? I'm sure it is because of the Mavericks. Is anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you! Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi Ergomoto,

Your post here looks to be just what I need to explore for my problem which again is different to those described here but might require much of the solution you outlined in your very helpful post. I just got the 13HD yesterday afternoon to replace the 12WX. I had already upgraded the driver and therefore I thought I would be good to go. I had also bought a HDMI adaptor from maplins. It all seemed to work until I tried to change to left handed use. That's when I found that the wacom properties did not have the mapping tab which I had seen on the internet and in its place was the calibration tab. Although in options I could set LH use this made no difference. Phoned wacom who tried to be very helpful but the lady I spoke to did not have a Mac so was working in the dark. She manoeuvred me into rotating the screen but although a fix of sort still left me without some functionality I wanted such as brightness control etc. Then I read this post and just knew that the adaptor was likely to be the culprit as I think the system thinks I have the 12WX rather than the 13HD attached.

Kanex adaptor on its way to me and I will post once I have it installed.

Thanks for the advice

Hi Macster18,

Best of luck wrangling your Mac, Mavericks, Wacom tablet, and correct HDMI adaptive connectivity. The new 13HD is a vast improvement on the 12.

What Mac computer are you presumably running OS X 10.9 Mavericks on? Knowing my MacBook Pro 17's (mid 2009) particular idiosyncrasies or short comings was critical in solving proper HDMI connectivity for my Wacom Cintiq 13HD & MacBook Pro.

Again, in my MacTop's unique case, the 2008 & 2009 model years had pre Thunderbolt Mini Video Display Ports, and most notably do not include the audio/power in this connection. An HDMI adaptor with a piggybacked USB connection is required. Though the 13HD does not need audio or power from it's connected computer, it is my now field tested opinion that this USB included adaptor in my MacBook's case is necessary for some "other" unknown connectivity, as it will only function with this style of adaptor.

I believe most newer Mac's than mine nearly all have Thunderbolt Mini Display Ports now, which are by all appearance's identical to my early plane Mini Display. Any adaptors used then, should adequately accommodate Thunderbolt technology.

Hi Fatblood,

As I posted the original post about Cintiq 13hd having problem with iMac late 2012 Mavericks 10.9. I'm currently using CS5 as well and I don't have any problem as you mentioned, even though, CS5 has always crashed on me several times. May be it only occurs to MacPro? Have you ever try it with iMac?

Also update to my original post, I've never manage to get the Kanex adaptor since someone commented here about put the iMac on sleep and turn on the Cintiq afterward. It works for me and I can live with that because at least I don't have to spend more money on an overprice adaptor.

If anyone found a solution please let us know.

Ok guys, Looks like the problem of my original post is solved.

After I updated my iMac to 10.9.2 version, my iMac and Cintiq 13 hd is working just fine no matter if I turn the cintiq on before or after the iMac is logged in, the imac screen is never crash. I've been tested it 3 times.....no problem so far.

Thanks Apple for the software update!

So I have a brand new Mac Pro... Active DVI adapters for my dual monitors and my Cintiq 13HD will not show itself. This is so **** frustrating. You're telling me I can edit 4k video, use 6 monitors at one time but you can't even make it so I can use my computer as I need to. I'm very frustrated with this. I ahve to keep disconnecting and re-connecting my monitors to use my tablet.

I am having the same issue on my older Macbook Pro circa 2013 so last generation. I am using the adapter below from PNY. It seems to hit all the "must have" items so I was convinced it would work. I plan to test on my current MacBook Pro which has the HDMI built in. Much of this thread appears to be pretty old so if anyone else is seeing the same issues and found a way to fix this I would appreciate the help. I really do not want o have to re-attach the Cintiq to my windows machine.
