Mavericks Mail not sync'ing IMAP act. (Not GMail)

I have been waiting silently to see if a fix would come on its own, but none yet. Ever since upgrading to Mavericks, Mail.app does NOT sync my IMAP accounts correctly. I have gone so far as to remove and re-add the accounts numerous times... no change. The recent "update" that was supposed to address Gmail issues had no affect on my sync'ing issues either. As others have posted, I basically have to quit and re-launch mail for it to correctly show what is on the mail server. All of my iDevices are working just fine - I can read or move an email, and all my iDevices show it correctly... but when I return to my Mac - some show as unread - some messages that I moved or deleted are still THERE (unread), etc.

Once I quit and relaunch, the inbox displays correctly - but there is no way (that I can find) to force the inbox to "refresh" correctly while the app is open. "Getting new" messages does nothing to help. Has anyone found a solution or work-around...? or is this just a "sit back and wait for Apple to fix" kind of problem...?

Thanks,

SF

Mail is not connecting to the server after OS X Mavericks update. Meanwhile the same setting is working from Ipad, Iphone and even in windows mail. We have an exclusive mail server in our office. Connecting to mail server is easy only on the same server network with the same setting only by changing the server local address, but not working by the server IP from the internet.

"It was interesting to note that during the keynote for Yosemite, they did mention getting the 'basics' with Mail, like syncing, corrected. I certainly hope so..."

I tried the Yosemite beta for a week and it was far worse with regard to mail problems. Restarting mail was the only way to get it to check for new mail, and I frequently had to force quit instead of just quit. Yosemite also was not compatible yet with Final Cut Pro, which I use a lot, so I restored a Time Machine backup.

I finally have punted and am not going to try anything special to get Apple's mail to work again. I'm using Thunderbird without any issues at this point.

although this seems to be turning into a gmail thread, back on my IMAP its still all over the place. Ive noticed that the counts that are wrong, right themselves once the email is highlighted and read in the preview pane. Flagged items only count themselves under the flagged folder once i have found it and 'read' it... same with missing unread emails... oddly..

does this point to anything? any problems?

also i'm on a 2007 intel MBP, quite old, but works perfectly, where all these problems take place. my home 2011 Mini where these email settings are duplicated, doesn't have any problems... same settings, accounts, everything..

I've been working with a very responsive and well-run host (in Pittsburgh). They can find nothing in my settings or their servers which is causing this.

So, reluctantly, it seems as though it has to be Mail on Mavericks, since it all worked perfectly for me before I upgraded at work and continued to use IMAP.

Let me see if I got this right, your mail provider has no idea why you have problems so they are blaming another party therebye getting you off of their phone system?

Is that about it?

I wouldn't put it like that, Csound1 :-)

The host took my report very seriously, took the trouble to find this very thread, read through it, and concluded - were they not reasonable? - that it is indeed mavericks Mail with IMAP that's responsible, not the configuration of their (IMAP) servers; that's why I posted here.

…hoping that someone might have found a reliable and robust solution.

Csound1,

I agree: one can never be sure of anything :-)

But in this case (and I agree, much of the evidence here is anecdotal), it's an unusually long thread - even for these BBS - with many people experiencing a similar set of phenomena.

In my case Mail IMAP worked perfectly with the two hosts I use for IMAP and the same settings until I upgraded to Mavericks. Now it doesn't - with either host (I have been in communication with one, of the two, so far).

Isn't it a reasonable conclusion to draw… that something in Mail has changed in 10.9?

If it isn't, what do you suggest I do to get it working again, please?

Thanks!

I'm with you Mark. Simple process of elimination. My IMAP worked with a single fault for years. It was the one thing i never had to touch or tweak, in fact i never even gave it a thought... until Mavericks Mail. Now it actually changes the fault it has on different days at different times on different items and/or folders...

I too have the same ISP for my Mail, they have the same problem themselves, they have looked at the issues themselves for their other users, and they have no changes, no issues, no changes in how they deliver IMAP and no knowledge of the problems being caused.

such as now... my 2007 intel MBP is all over the place, my 2011 Mini is fine
