Mavericks Mail not sync'ing IMAP act. (Not GMail)

I have been waiting silently to see if a fix would come on its own, but none yet. Ever since upgrading to Mavericks, Mail.app does NOT sync my IMAP accounts correctly. I have gone so far as to remove and re-add the accounts numerous times... no change. The recent "update" that was supposed to address Gmail issues had no affect on my sync'ing issues either. As others have posted, I basically have to quit and re-launch mail for it to correctly show what is on the mail server. All of my iDevices are working just fine - I can read or move an email, and all my iDevices show it correctly... but when I return to my Mac - some show as unread - some messages that I moved or deleted are still THERE (unread), etc.

Once I quit and relaunch, the inbox displays correctly - but there is no way (that I can find) to force the inbox to "refresh" correctly while the app is open. "Getting new" messages does nothing to help. Has anyone found a solution or work-around...? or is this just a "sit back and wait for Apple to fix" kind of problem...?

Thanks,

SF

Mail is not connecting to the server after OS X Mavericks update. Meanwhile the same setting is working from Ipad, Iphone and even in windows mail. We have an exclusive mail server in our office. Connecting to mail server is easy only on the same server network with the same setting only by changing the server local address, but not working by the server IP from the internet.

yes, of course this works. BUT THAT ISN'T HOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE AND THAT ISN'T HOW IT WAS BEFORE I UPGRADED TO OS10.9.5. This is an introduced bug by Apple and it should be fixed very soon. My mail comes in as expected when going through the browser and also on my iPhone but not on my iMac. My computer should be a time-shaver and I shouldn't be forced to take extra steps to make a program work that worked before they messed it up.😕

I have had the same issue with my iMac and now with my MacBookPro -- I get email to a GoDaddy account [which is IMAP, properly set up and which is checked by Mail] just fine on my iPhone but then I go to the computers and Mail does not - I have quit Mail and restarted it= the email I received on my iPhone didn't even come in then. I have gone offline and also checked Mail and no email = I did end up forwarding it to my Mac email address and it came in, but it should be coming in without any problem since it is IMAP and also does come in on devices.

re-replying....my Mail accounts [2 GoDaddy] are set up as IMAP....After reading thru this thread quite slowly, I went to my iPHone and iPad and turned the email gathering to Manual, so as far as I know, those devices checking are out of the loop. One poster thought perhaps the constant checking by devices might be causing issues so since I don't need that, turned it off. I'm not home now to check my iMac and Mini but the problem has also been on my MacBook Pro = and I've done the offline/online fixes several times.

Just filed a bug report under Feedback under Mail on menu =

I am a JointVenture member and have worked with JV to solve the problem and also researched it online here in the Community. My Mail works with iCloud and 2 GoDaddy [not gmail] accounts, properly set up. On my computers, iMac and MBP, it does not work or sync reliably. Works fine on idevices, I think. I have deleted and rebuilt Mail several times, I have gone offline and back on etc. several times. One thing I have noticed is that under Mailbox Status menu the 3 accounts would say OnLine [in other words, Take OnLine was greyed out] but when I try to send SMTP it says they are offline ==and nothing will send. And that's what it says in Connection Doctor.

Victoria, you sound like you have certainly done your research. I also filed a bug report under Feedback. I don't know what a JointVenture member is nor do I do GoDaddy, but it appears clear that Apple broke something in their last mail update so maybe if we keep up this dialogue, someone up there will get the message (after, of course they quit their mail and restart it again) and we will get a fix. We get used to doing something and with Apple, we expect it to continue to work flawlessly. It gets really annoying when this happens. We might as well have been using a Microsoft product!

I have just switched to imap from pop and thought I had done the right thing until discovering this little bug. Seems a fundamental issue but has been around for over a year!!

I am with plusnet and spent ages trying to get new mails to appear and then realised I had to quit and restart mail to see them!

The weird thing is mail knows the new mail has arrived, it puts out a notification and also you see the mail appear and then disappear in the inbox!!

I assume if I use a different Mail product I can still just use imap in combination with my iOS devices. Has anyone got any recommendations of a good mail app on the iMAC (Yosemite) until Apple resolve this issue? If there is a mail app that allows folders to be migrated that would be good!!

Well I best go and restart mail to see if I have any new mails!!

Joint Venture is an upgraded AppleCare for business purposes = I find it quite helpful, tho you do pay more for it. For me it has been well worth it....as to Mail, I noticed that my iMac on Mavericks had issues, as does my MacBookPro but when I upgraded the Mini to Yosemite [which I didn't want to do for other reasons, just yet] the issue went away. I cannot say that is the answer totally and have just upgraded my iMac to Yosemite so will be able to tell fairly soon as to whether it's Mail or Mavericks. I'll hope to report back.

In the meantime, I have sent in a bug report via Mail [Apple Menu] and hope that with all this discussion and bug reports, changes will be made and improvements will result.

Remove AntiVirus (if you have one)

It did not make much sense to me, but before I installed another email client I decided to give Mail a last chance: I completely removed my antivirus program (Avast in this case) and suddenly Mail started syncing with my Gmail accounts.

Check if that is case for someone with the same problem.

That's a good suggestion. I use Clam XAV for virus protections and SpamSieve to filter my mail. Neither have had issues that I know of here (prior/post update).

My current problem is related to this thread (to the one reported here) but not exactly the same... In my case, I cannot transfer (using the Archive command) email from my Inbox to my Archive folder. Simply doesn't go. I am told by the provider of the IMAP account (no, it's not Google or iCloud) that they did discover some inconsistencies with the files and will do a 're-sync' at the server level. After that I will try again. There is a limit to the number of messages (25000) which I may have hit, perhaps the size of the folder is limited too by the server. You may want to check that before indicting the application(s).

Unfortunately, Apple's Mail.app is not too informative of all of the server's settings and limitation on that side of the equation.

I am waiting for the resync to complete and will try again to shuffle the messages around at the server using the providers on line tools, then see if the IMAP account on the computers' side works and update the folders. It would be nice if those settings and synchronization options were apparent, however Mail seems not to have those features (Advanced tabs or anywhere that I can find). Google and iCloud have had no trouble in this regard and seem to play well with Mail.

Have a look at Thunderbird (Mozilla).
