Mavericks Mail not sync'ing IMAP act. (Not GMail)

That's a good suggestion. I use Clam XAV for virus protections and SpamSieve to filter my mail. Neither have had issues that I know of here (prior/post update).

My current problem is related to this thread (to the one reported here) but not exactly the same... In my case, I cannot transfer (using the Archive command) email from my Inbox to my Archive folder. Simply doesn't go. I am told by the provider of the IMAP account (no, it's not Google or iCloud) that they did discover some inconsistencies with the files and will do a 're-sync' at the server level. After that I will try again. There is a limit to the number of messages (25000) which I may have hit, perhaps the size of the folder is limited too by the server. You may want to check that before indicting the application(s).

Unfortunately, Apple's Mail.app is not too informative of all of the server's settings and limitation on that side of the equation.

I am waiting for the resync to complete and will try again to shuffle the messages around at the server using the providers on line tools, then see if the IMAP account on the computers' side works and update the folders. It would be nice if those settings and synchronization options were apparent, however Mail seems not to have those features (Advanced tabs or anywhere that I can find). Google and iCloud have had no trouble in this regard and seem to play well with Mail.

Have a look at Thunderbird (Mozilla).

Wouldn't you know that Yosemite fixed the Mavericks Mail issue. Hallelujah... I have never been more excited to hear the *ding* of new mail coming in from non-Gmail IMAP accounts this morning! I won't go as far as to say that Mavericks was the Vista in the Apple world, but with how many bugs there were in it, I'm feeling that the "B Team" was handling that version this entire time.

After 25 pages of comments in this thread, I sure hope it can finally be closed and put to bed!

Not true here. Yosemite Mail seems to have the same problem reported here for Mavericks Mail. A difference is that if you leave it open it seems to periodically self-repair, synching successfully for a while, but then it loses the information again - reliably. D@mn!.

In another thread re: POP mail problems, the answer appeared to be to uncheck the "Automatically detect and maintain account settings" in two places for each account: in the advanced settings for both the incoming and outgoing servers. So I tried that with my IMAP accounts and after doing that, and restarting Mail a few times, things seem to be working. For the moment anyway...

This seems to be a new option previously nonexistent in Mavericks OS X Mail.app. I checked 10.9.5 and it isn't there, don't remember seeing it previously, it's on by default in my IMAP account with non-Google servers. It was checked when I installed the OS (clean install) and then manually added the accounts, I guess - never had to fool with it. In fact the only thing not checked by default in that page, for iCloud accounts, is the "Send large attachments with MailDrop."

I have had major issues with Mavericks using non-Google based external servers as explained here, and to Apple separately. I gave up on using the app with those servers and went to (ugh!) Microsoft (Office for Mac) Outlook.

No, those settings aren't there in my Mail 7.3 (build 1878.6) on 10.9.5.

I just keep going off- and on-line…

Well it seems to have worked for the moment on my office iMac, but did not fix the issue on my laptop. I didn't start to have this problem until Mavericks; and my website/mail is with GoDaddy. I'm going to try out out Thunderbird. Best, Don

It's a Yosemite function, you won't see it on Mav.

Delete the connector and make a new one.

I just continue to take all accounts on and off line; seems to work :-)

A new connector may make that unnecessary, and it takes about 2 minutes to make one, + 2 seconds to delete the one that is failing.

How would that work in practice? In 10.9.5 how do you suggest doing that, please? Thanks!

Open System Preferences>Network,

Delete the existing connector by selecting it in the sidebar and pressing the minus sign at the bottom. Then press the plus sign and a dialog will open, select WiFi as the new interface. Then connect it to your wireless in the same manner as usual.

WOW - There are a lot of pages here!! I went through more than half and decided to jump to the end.

It looks like no one has "really" found a solution to the original problem.

I have the same problem (with gmail and non-gmail imap) since installing Mavericks.

I'd like to add another strange thing, maybe someone knows how to handle this. These same imap accounts are randomly being sent to archives!!????

What the....??? I have no idea how to stop that from happening. Any ideas?

BTW - uninstalling Avast seemed to help for the loading of some accounts, but not all.

This is really becoming a problem!! I'm so used to counting on Mail to load my emails from all my different accounts that managing manually is really not an option.

Sigh. What to do???

Apple Support posted a two step suggestion in July:

OS X: New email messages not received until Mail is quit and reopened

If your mail is updated by quitting and restarting Mail, then this should work. They didn't explain the cause of the bug.
