safari 7 in mavericks loading pages slow

My safari loads pages slow (not every page). The blue progress bar is stuck at half way. But other browsers like chrome, firefox load the same page fast. And if I turn private browsing on, the same page loads as fast as the other browsers. I have tried every solution I have searched, but still can not solve this problem. any one encountered the same situation?

Hi Linc.

For Step 1, Safari responds quickly when I sign-in as Guest.

For Step 2, Safari responds equally slow after I boot up in Safe mode. After a normal reboot, the Safari is still slow.

I have a new Macbook Pro 15 with Retina. It is 2 weeks old.

Odd thing to note... I noticed this issue last week. But during the week, Safari is sometimes fast rendering the same site. http://www.yahoo.com is expecially slow compared to other sites. But as Guest, it loads very fast. Even this site is pretty slow.

Any ideas?

I agree. I've deleted web data and cookies, reset Safari, restarted iMac, tested internet speed and it's fast. I switched from a PC and Internet Explorer to an iMac and I get the same old BS! Why doesn't Safari tell us what is so slow: internet, website, or computer? There's no concensus on what we have to do to get fast surfing. I bought a very capable iMac and have a fast internet. Doesn't matter which company I call - no one has an answer that works. It's really frustrating and a waste of time trying to troubleshoot these systems. Somewhere while doing these things my printer lost its wireless connection and now the whole printer icon is gone at the bottom - just a ? mark. Are we having fun yet?!

If you are running Mavericks 10.3 then you will find IPV6 is enabled by default , turn it off unless you know your network or isp is running V6 ,

You will find it in the networks /advanced tab and you will need to turn off with a terminal command ;

networksetup -setv6off wi-fi

networksetup -setv6off ethernet

Lots of people are seeing Safari page loads that are slow or stall; this can be intermittent. Many cures have been suggested, many of which seem to work, at least for a while. So many things could be up. I can only report what worked for me (meaning so far, in turn meaning 24 hours -- but the most persistent fix of all).

I looked at the logs in Console.app and saw vast numbers of the the following report:

4/8/14 9:05:57.722 PM acwebsecagent[327]: Connection : Auth key is not provided or is invalid, applying connection failure policy. CMode : 2 TMode : 1

4/8/14 9:05:57.722 PM acwebsecagent[327]: OnConnectionFailure : Fail Open - Reason = Unable to verify the license key

Repeated over and over while Safari was running, over 200 reports in a minute. Googling revealed this to be a component of the Cisco AnyConnect VPN package, something not needed for routine VPN work but that creeps in as part of the default installation. Deleting AnyConnect and reinstalling it without the web agentcwas seems to have been the fix for me (famous last words). There has been a number of discussions about this on this site.

You might try looking at your Console logs to see if anything funky is going.

_If_ AnyConnect is your problem... it actually comes with an uninstaller (should be in Application/Cisco/). If you then re-install the software, the installer should offer a screen with installation options - the optional bits will have checkboxes. Make sure those are not checked. You will then get the core VPN app but not (the apparently evil) acwebsecagent.

Just want to chime in with my findings.

I'd tried all the fixes. Disabling power saving feature, removing all extensions, resettings safari and clearing all website data.

I booted into guest mode and safe mode and was still getting terrible performance. I was also getting poor performance across all browsers (google chrome and firefox).

My solution:

I had sophos antivirus installed. As soon as I removed this pages were instantly loading and 10x more responsive. Might be worth a try if you have this installed and are having safari issues. I'm off to find a new anti virus program!
