Logic Pro X keeps crashing

My Logic Pro X continually crashes. Just shuts down without any seeming cause. Not just Logic Pro X crashes, but it instantly and simultaneously shuts down the iMac as well! I have every app turned off except for Logic Pro X but I also get (along with the "without-notice" crashes) some that say "System Overload". I do NOT have a lot of junk, nor do I have a lot of thins working in the backgorund. I thought Mavericks was supposed to "compress" memory and reduce the workload. Doesn't seem to work on MINE! I am running a brand new iMac with 8 Gb memory, so why all the crashing? It does save my work automatically when it dies, but this is crazy. I don't remember Logic Pro 9 EVER craashing. Any ideas of what is causing this. P.S. I am not the average idiot who doesn't have a shred of computer knowledge. I actually work on Macs and that's why this is such a mystery as to why Logic Pro X goes into sudden death every few minutes. Any ideas are welcome.

I also am using NI instruments and Kontakt 5 with Mavericks 10.9 and Logic Pro X, and have no problems with them that I know of. Right now, the only extent of Kontakt that I use is the Scarbee MM-Bass, and that's about it, so I'm not really doing anything too intense. Like I said, my Logic Pro X only seems to crash when I'm using the built-in graphical EQ plugin, and it only seems to have become a problem when I installed the update from the App Store for Logic Pro X (this update included an update to the EQ).

I am using a large gammut of NI, SAM, etc., and it just seems like it is about to freeze and even does for a moment but all in all, this is happening over a large range of machines, plugs, interfaces, control surfaces...

But this is what I know-no one on a whole in the pro-industry uses anything but Pro Tools. Not that they don't, aren't or will not have issues but not this type of wide spread chaos.

I for one wish I had not stayed current on the os as well as the program. ML and LP9 worked. Albeit a while after they both were released. But they worked.

I will never do this again. I will stay with what works until the advantages outweigh staying with the old or they stop supporting it.

Just trying to eek out a reel and change everything on my end and I cannot even record anything.

But enough of this. I am going to solve or abandon this. Whining about the obvious shortcommings is nowhere I want to be.

Thanks guys. I will watch and keep in the loop by having signed up for notifications of additional thoughts and updates. You guys rock.

I realize this is an older thread but i wanted to put this in, just incase somebody else searches it. The problem (1 of many) is the way Logic handles multithread and cores. or lack of the ability to handle them.

He has a great write up on how lame logic is and that apple refuses to admit that logics engine is old and out of date. Also the AU Plugin only supports 16 midi channels. Meaning, you can only access 1 plug in up to 16 channels. In PT and every other DAW you have the choice of 1- 1-16 and 2-1-16. etc..

Not sure why logic won't update but whatever. Just don't leave a track record enabled. It will kill the single core and cause problems..
