Logic Pro X keeps crashing

My Logic Pro X continually crashes. Just shuts down without any seeming cause. Not just Logic Pro X crashes, but it instantly and simultaneously shuts down the iMac as well! I have every app turned off except for Logic Pro X but I also get (along with the "without-notice" crashes) some that say "System Overload". I do NOT have a lot of junk, nor do I have a lot of thins working in the backgorund. I thought Mavericks was supposed to "compress" memory and reduce the workload. Doesn't seem to work on MINE! I am running a brand new iMac with 8 Gb memory, so why all the crashing? It does save my work automatically when it dies, but this is crazy. I don't remember Logic Pro 9 EVER craashing. Any ideas of what is causing this. P.S. I am not the average idiot who doesn't have a shred of computer knowledge. I actually work on Macs and that's why this is such a mystery as to why Logic Pro X goes into sudden death every few minutes. Any ideas are welcome.

User Diagnostic Reports was greyed out so I was uable to locate any file such as the one you posted. Just more copies of the one I posted already. I pinpointed the time and there are many things at that time, but most just list a line or two, no big report. There are instances of reporting that Logic Pro X shut down, but that's all... nothing like the example you provided. More like Logic Pro X was just a victim of some other tragedy. There was a small bit if info listed in Console at the time of the crash (I only located it once though) regarding a USB 3 port at the time of the kernel panic. There is a repeated mention of something called iokit too at the same time as the crash, but I don't know what that file is. I do have a USB 3 external hard drive connected to the iMac. Any chance this is the cause? I'm going to unplug it now just to see. I have a ton of work ahead of me in Logic Pro X today, so it will give me a chance to give this idea a whirl, as I noticed you mentioned this in one of your posts to my dilemma here, but I'm not certain why. My Mac is USB 3 compatible of course, but is there some issue with it I'm not aware of? Again, any input you can provide is greatly appreciated.

I am using a USB 2 class compliant Audiobox USB from PreSonus. I'm not clear if you are asking whether the actual port on the iMac is USB 3 or if the PreSonus unit is connected that way. My iMac is a late 2012 and has USB 3 compatible USB ports. But the PreSonus unit is USB 2 only and using a USB 2 cable to connect to the iMac. Hope this info helps.

I also had a crash today and a User Diagnostic Report was generated listing Logic Pro X in a report akin to the example you sent. It's 30 some pages long though. Would you like me to post it all for you, or is there something specific you're wanting to see?

Please post all of it.. just in case... but I have to say I had a feeling you were going to say you had the USB2 class compliant AudioBox.... plugged into a USB3 port with OS X... as from what I have been involved with, with one of my clients.. he has the eact same interface and is having the exact same issues and Presonus are, at the moment.. not being helpful, claiming there is no current issue because their AudioBox is class compliant!

The problem seems to be that it is class compliant when plugged into a USB2 port but not so much when plugged into a USB3 port and when used with either 10.8 or 10.9... and at this time, there doesn't seem to be any resolution forthcoming from either Presonus or Apple for that matter...

However, yes, please post up that entire crash log just in case there is something else going on, that is causing the crashes but I have this sneaky ideas it will be a 'Thread Zero' crash and there will be little to go on to help identify the root cause of the crash.

I am also having this same problem. I noticed the problem when I installed an upgrade that the App Store recommended I install for Logic Pro X. The upgrade had a number of things that it addressed, but one of them was the new interface on the built-in EQ. I notice that my Logic Pro X only crashes when I'm using the EQ (dragging curves, etc). I don't think I've ever had the program crash on me otherwise. I have a feeling that this problem has something to do with this upgrade.

Is anyone else experiencing this same problem with the new EQ plugin? This could possibly narrow down the problem.

Unfortunately, I am in the same, currently sinking, boat.

My spec's: late 2012 mac mini (server grade)/ 256GB SSD/ 16GB RAM

Facts: running no other programs but LPX (latest version) + Mavericks (latest version)

Understood: Kontakt 5 has problems with Mavericks

Additional: the entire Creative Cloud suite was broken by Mavericks

The issues: (only midi related initially + Kontakt 5: plugs include NI 'Evolve', Symphobia, etc.)

-can record one track

-additional tracks either show but do not paly back or do not show a region once I have recorded them

-after setting up track one with a plug, switch to track two, record enable and begin to record track two

and first plugin has switched itself to another plugin

-quantizing a track throws everything around so I have to hand 'key' everything myself

Now issues with audio plugins:

-yesterday launched LPX using Guitar Rig 5; horrible buzzing after each stroke on the guitar; quit LPX; realunched and setup brand new project with GR5-buzzing stopped

-just launched LPX again today and message, first time ever shows up: the following NI plugins have

not passed the AU test: include, Guitar Rig 5, Absynth, Massive, etc.

Straight up, I realize that software companies who sit on their laurels knowing that a new osx is coming out and as a result, things break. But to have apple, who built the computer and designed the software not work...

Any insight would be very welcome here. Entire computer and software and plugs are sitting here doing nothing. I am not tech. I do not monkey around with the innards. I just turn it on to capture ideas. Have googled this to death and still nothing.

Thanks.

Brian,

Im using the latest versions of NI software successfully with LPX.... No issues here at all with validation...

Kontakt 5.3 has a couple of issues still when trying to load/exchange different sample sets if you do not stop playback in LPX...but NI are aware of this issue and are working on a fix for this...

However, the issues you are describing (failed validation) are not anything I have come across...

Suggestion: Uninstall and reinstall Your NI Plugins... and then only validate in LPX after you have authorized in NI's Service Center and run each of the NI plugins in standalone mode first (Something NI recommend under certain circumstances when there are validation/install issues)

AOS,

Thanks for the quick reply. I will try this. And I never change plugs on the fly like that. To me that seems like you are begging for trouble. I see you might want to quickly see if another sound better fits the idea but that seems entirely to demanding on the system.

There was a time when macs could really take it but those days are way past and these machines are just to sensitive an 'untuned.'

Mavericks came out too early and now they are a buggy Gates machine wrapped in a cadillac facade. I had to throw a brand new iMac 2012 back in through the apple front door because it wouldn't even run the bloated FCPX. so it is not just LPX. It is a computer manufacturer who seems incapable of designing and keeping a tight QC on their own software. I realize this may be strange to you but I assure you, I am far from the only one and all on different machines.

The thought of going back to pc's and cubase is ugly. And I have thought long and hard about Pro Tools since my newest interface came bundled with a lite version of PT.

Thanks again, I really appreciate your input, insight and time. I really dig apple for the same reason everyone does. Here's to hoping it works outl

I also am using NI instruments and Kontakt 5 with Mavericks 10.9 and Logic Pro X, and have no problems with them that I know of. Right now, the only extent of Kontakt that I use is the Scarbee MM-Bass, and that's about it, so I'm not really doing anything too intense. Like I said, my Logic Pro X only seems to crash when I'm using the built-in graphical EQ plugin, and it only seems to have become a problem when I installed the update from the App Store for Logic Pro X (this update included an update to the EQ).

I am using a large gammut of NI, SAM, etc., and it just seems like it is about to freeze and even does for a moment but all in all, this is happening over a large range of machines, plugs, interfaces, control surfaces...

But this is what I know-no one on a whole in the pro-industry uses anything but Pro Tools. Not that they don't, aren't or will not have issues but not this type of wide spread chaos.

I for one wish I had not stayed current on the os as well as the program. ML and LP9 worked. Albeit a while after they both were released. But they worked.

I will never do this again. I will stay with what works until the advantages outweigh staying with the old or they stop supporting it.

Just trying to eek out a reel and change everything on my end and I cannot even record anything.

But enough of this. I am going to solve or abandon this. Whining about the obvious shortcommings is nowhere I want to be.

Thanks guys. I will watch and keep in the loop by having signed up for notifications of additional thoughts and updates. You guys rock.
