iPhone 5s screen repair cost...?

I went into my local apple store yesterday to see if they would cover my cracked iphone 5s screen and was given a quote of $269 to have the screen replaced... Does anyone know if that sounds about right...? I personally think that it's a little excessive... I only had my phone for about 2 weeks and accidently damaged the touch screen by dropping it... Does anyone know if that's a fair price...?

No worries happy to clarify

User uploaded file

OP Teamunik stated they were informed by the Apple Store a screen replacement for an iPhone 5S would cost $269. What varjak paw made clear in his post above was that $269 is not the price for screen replacement but for an out of warranty service. varjak paw was correct in saying that in the US an iPhone 5 screen replacement is $149 and what OP had been quoted was the price an a full unit out of warranty service. So varjak paw advised OP to contact the Apple Store again and ask them to clarify because the price for a screen replacement they were quoted was incorrrect.

Note: No information has been provided that Apple can now replace the screens for an iPhonew 5C or 5S only the iPhone 5.

As stated in the link http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq

What type of damages are not covered by my warranty?

Apple's Limited Warranty for iPhone excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications. Please review the warranty for further details.

An iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service may be eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service. For example, an iPhone that has failed due to damage or liquid damage is ineligible for warranty service but eligible for OOW service. However, certain damage is ineligible for OOW service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. Please see Apple's Repair Terms And Conditions for further details. Refer to this article to check if the Liquid Contact indicator on your product has been triggered.

If your iPhone is not eligible for warranty service, you may wish to contact your carrier for other options.

That is the standard price from Apple for replacing your iPhone. I don't know if any of the Apple Stores are yet able to replace the screen in the 5C, and if there are any can most likely that doesn't yet apply to all of the stores. Since you were quoted a replacement price, I would guess that the store you went to cannot yet replace the screen, so you have to pay the replacement price, whether or not you consider it "fair". Your only alternative will be a third-party repair which will void all further support from Apple.

Regards.

Then they're probably quoting you the wrong price. I haven't seen confirmation of the screen replacement price for the 5C, but the price for the iPhone 5 is US $149 and I can't imagine the price for the 5C being significantly higher. Confirm with the Apple Store what they're actually going to do and what your price will be. It shouldn't be $269 unless they're replacing the phone.

Regards.

Unless you can find other service pricing on the Apple site I believe I read it just fine. Any other pricing would be store specific in which case they were still quoted the correct price.

😟 I couldn't find any price quotes for just a screen replacement on the site... You?

Hmmm sorry no offence but as Peter Gillespie said please read varjak paw post again because I believe you misunderstood as you just confirmed what he posted but then disagreed with him. His information was correct that an iPhone 5 screen replacement in the US is $149 and an out of warranty service which is a full unit replacement is $269.

Hope this clears things up🙂

What would be considered an out of warranty repair...? Out of the 1 year limited warranty or just because it's an accidental damaged and not covered under the the 1 year warranty...? The employee at Apple never mentioned anything about a full unit replacement... He made it seem like they were just gonna replace the screen for that price... There would be no reasons as to why I would need to replace my entire phone unless they couldn't do the repairs in house

I had the same problem. They offer the whole phone replacement for $269 and said they didn't yet have the parts to just replace the screen. After looking around a bit, the usual non-apple screen repair folks seem to not have the parts yet either, at least in SF.

Apple knows their stuff, but it's kind of like going to the dealership when you have car trouble. You'll pay a premium. Most iPhone screen repairs in the past have been for well under $100, and it sounds like the 5S is no more difficult to repair than prior versions, and perhaps easier once they have the parts. I think I'm going to wait a while and see, or at least as long as I can bear it.

Currently no OEM parts are available and Apple does not supply their parts to 3rd party repair sites. Many of the 3rd party sites are utilizing salvaged screens from iPhones. The big advantage of doing the out-of-warranty replacement, especially at this point in time, is it will restart the warranty on the iPhone, i.e. if you have 11 months left on the warranty (which was voided when the accident occurred) you will have 11 months with the replacement model. If you go to the less than $100 3rd party to replace it you will still have no warranty on the phone and you will no longer have access to out-of-warranty replacement.

I'm sorry but I still have not seen anything related to an actual Posted/stated by Apple article that stated a screen replacement can be done for $149.00. I know what has been said in this forum but I just wanted an Apple article to reference.

I don't want to give incorrect information but I also don't want other people to be misinformed. So far, for OOW service, what I posted above are the price for the service.

If you know of or have a link to an article that says otherwise, please provide it so I can be more informed.

Screen replacement can be done for $149 for the iPhone 5 as Varjak Paw said in his post. To date Apple is not doing screen replacements on the iPhone 5c or 5s so no one knows what that will cost. OOW replacement cost is $269 as he said in his post and as you posted.

Currently there is no article stating screen replacements are available but regardless it is an option since many users have gone to certain Apple Stores in the US and had it done. I do see what you mean by trying to give correct information but this is a definitely an option if available at the Store near the user.
