iPhone 5s screen repair cost...?

I went into my local apple store yesterday to see if they would cover my cracked iphone 5s screen and was given a quote of $269 to have the screen replaced... Does anyone know if that sounds about right...? I personally think that it's a little excessive... I only had my phone for about 2 weeks and accidently damaged the touch screen by dropping it... Does anyone know if that's a fair price...?

Just went to the Apple store as my nice new iPhone 5s screen was cracked from a drop onto the pavement. I did not have AppleCare+. The kind Genius that we made an appointment with got manager approval to replace the phone with a new one OOW for the $149 price to replace the screen because they did not yet receive the parts / equipment to do iPhone 5s screen replacements yet. YAY!!

They did the same for another person who came in right after me.

I tried to go in to a store and get my screen replaced last night, however I was unsuccesful in convincing them to allow me to swap my phone at the $149 screen replacement price. Did you have to put up a big fight or were they pretty willing to acommodate you? The sad thing is, I tried to buy apple care + on day 30 of owning my phone and the live chat rep I spoke with was unwilling to sell it to me. Three weeks later I crack my screen. I wish there was an ETA on the screen replacements.

I didn't even need to ask. I just showed them the cracked glass and asked what they could do. They said they would normally replace the screen for $149 but since they didn't have the parts, they would just replace the phone for a new one. The manager approval only took a few seconds. I got the impression they had done this quite a few times already, and someone else got the same deal right after me. The store is in NJ.

So some Apple stores do have the authority to do this for now. Perhaps it's at managers discretion. Sorry you could not get the same deal. Perhaps try a different store if you have one near you.

That's really great that you had that experience. I'm going to try myself this weekend. I've gotten so so so many different varied responses from coworkers and freinds - some say they just replaced it for them, some say $149, some say $269, some say $379. That's a big big chunk of $$ to be sure.

Also disapointed is that after chatting with Apple online they only quote $269, and I'm very weary about taking the phone to the apple store because I called all three in the orange county CA area and got 3 different responses (mind you I got these phone numbers from apple.com they are the right locations):

South Coast Plaza: $269 and we send it off, it takes about 3 weeks (this was the oddest response)

Irvine Spectrum: We don't repair those, no, you'll have to try one of the other apple stores.

Fashion Island: It can start as low as $269 and go up to $650 depending on what's wrong with it.

I'm most disapointed in the fact that out of 4 iphones I've bought, all from AT&T stores, I've never once, in all that time, ever been offered AppleCare+ which I only learned about after i dropped my 5S a few weeks ago and did research about it. I've never even been offered AT&T's own insurance. I pay for just about every bolt-on AT&T offers, roadside assistance, etc. and have the max data plan I can get (5gb+tethering) and there are 5 phones on my family plan. I bring them a pretty penny every month, and AT&T's only answer is "there's nothing we can do for you" absolutely nothing. point blank period.

Then there's every single tech site on the interwebs saying that SOME apple stores (but never saying which ones) are offering iPhone 5S screen replacement for $149 and there's this big machine that does it in a vacuum etc. None of the apple stores would comment and non would confirm $149.

You cannot get AppleCare Plus through AT&T,.

You have to order the iPhone online from Apple (not AT&T) or purchase iPhone from AT&T then take it to an Apple store so they can inspect it or purchase iPhone at Apple store.

Here's the thing though RichmondDan...I've been waiting several months for Apple to actually start repairing 5s screens in store. There have been several reports since November that they are going to do it. They repair the 5 and the 5c, and I have no doubt the technology exists to repair the 5s in store. So why won't they let us know when they are going to implement it? I think that's the thing that makes me the most angry...that they won't inform their "geniuses" or their telephone and internet chat customer service reps about when this service will be available.

So even if it is going to void my warranty, I really don't want to wait any longer for a service that we know they can provide. And yes, I realize now that I probably should have bought Applecare. But there is absolutely no reason why they can't keep their employees informed about when this service will be provided.

If you have the 1 year warranty, you aren't covered by the warranty for accidental damages. If you buy iCare 2 year warranty when you buy the phone, you're covered for 2 accidental damages and you only have to pay $79 fee and they will bring you a new phone. Granted, you might have to wait for a while. A $269 repair cost would make sense if you don't have iCare.

In Aus and got this done 2 days ago. Met with a genius, she was so kind and decided that my phone was covered under warranty as it's a hairline crack ( and some scracthes at the back of my phone ). So I do not have to pay a thing!

TOO AWESOME and very glad as I could be paying up to $349 depending on the damages on the phone. The genius must be in a really good mood as the crack was about 7cm - 8cm long.

However, the phone that Apple is replacing is a refurbished phone. The genius explained to me it depends on how do you look at it. The new phone that we initially get, all parts being put together by the team. This "refurbished" phone parts were also being put together, tested by the same team and never owned by anyone. I was promised the new phone is "exactly" the same as my old phone. I got my initial phone back in Oct 2013 so the warranty will still start from Oct 2013.

Sorry if the reply is too long but trying to give as much information as possible as I know how devastated it is to have a crack screen and not able to get it repair by Apple!

That cost is to high, I got my iPhone 5 screen replaced for 130.00 and they came to my location. The company is icracked and it's come with a life time warranty.

The iCracked lifetime warranty covers only the screen if it fails.

The screen is not covered if the screen is damaged and the rest of the hone is not covered for anything

Again, however, this question thread is about the Apple iPhone 5S, not the 5.

iCracked charges $199 for a 5S screen replacement, and their warranty only covers defects. It is nearly impossible, short of a class action lawsuit or actual admittance by a manufacturer or the installer to prove defects in parts or workmanship; and as Chris pointed out, does not cover if it is ever damaged or cracked again. It also voids your Apple warranty.

I apologize that I'm sorta new to doing this. I bought it 2 months ago, and iPhone 5s. Cracked screen, no apple care..I know I know. I read a thread on here that stated with a managers approval and as an inconvenience for apple not having the components to fix them that certain managers have been able to just replace the whole device. I spoke to 2 managers at the 2 locations we have here in San Antonio and I didn't get anywhere.
