apple tv lag when using airplay on macbook pro

Hi folks,

i have recently bought a new apple tv (november 2013) partly for using net flix, listening to music and using youtube on my big screen, but the main reason was for me to watch movies i have on my mac book pro without having to manually plug it in.

the air play feature works seamlessly with my iphone 5 and i get good hd quality and no lag, however when i use my mac book i am experiencing some audio lag and what looks like a low frame rate as the picture is jittery and rarely smooth. This is the case whether i am watching youtube, sky go, and also videos in QuickTime or vlc player. i don't understand why this is and want advice on how to get a smooth airplay experience from my mac book.i have followed all the advice I can find online without success:

1) i have checked my internet connections and ensured i it is fast and stable (15 mb/s down, 1mb/s up)....(obviously the same as on my iphone anyway)

2) i have toggled on/off bluetooth and it make no difference

3) i have ensured all other programs are turned off and i am not downloading anything

4)i have tried changing the display options to optimise the display for airplay

5) i have ensured my apple tv and mac have the latest software (including the last maverick update)

6) i have tried connecting my laptop and apple tv to my router via Ethernet

i am using a 2012 mac book pro 2.6ghz core i7 with 8gb memory, and even when playing full 1080p video activity monitor shows that my laptop is hardly stretched.

can anyone help and advice why I'm having problems airplaying from my laptop and not on my iphone as this is infuriating!

thanks

Could'nt agree more.

I tunes and anything running off my actual MAC computer works perfectly. However Sky go and Netflix refuses to stream without jitters on my big TV via my Apple TV / mac laptop.

I ve paid for all of these services but I guess both Sky go and Netflix are considered competitors by apple so a simple wireless connection is made difficult Perhaps ?

Don' t make me plug a bloody cable in APPLE. That's the main reason I invested in your APPLE TV device in the 1st place. NO CABLE !!!!!!!!!!

It may have been mentioned here already, but this solution (and none others) worked for me:

I went into my router settings, and switched QOS off. More specifically, for my AT&T UVerse Router, I changed my Wireless Mode from 802.11b/g/n to 802.11 b/g.

This fixed my MacBook Pro to airplay problem for the most part and I think sped up my apple devices a good bit (this may be coincidence though).

Omg, I'm using an iMac. I have been experiencing this streaming issue with my Apple TV. Right now, I thought, I am gonna try anything! LOL. Your solution, turning off Bluetooth on my Apple TV helped! I was able to stream and watch "The Night Before". I mean the whole darn moving without it freezing or blinking in~and~out. Apple Community are geniuses! 😎
