RAM Unseating

So I have been having problems with my RAM for the past year or so and I figured my logic board was beginning to fail and just accepted it but today I found out what the problem was. To back up a bit, I have been having troubles waking my MBP from sleep and occasionally it would load only 4GB of my 8GB or RAM. It seemed like it was only recognizing that I had 1 stick instead of 2. I had this problem in the past and Apple replaced my logic board, but now my MBP is about 5 years old and they won't do that. So, anyway, when I have these episodes where only 1 stick loads, I usually shut my MBP down and just reseat the RAM and this usually fixes the problem. Well, today I noticed that the notches that hold the RAM in their modules has worn down some and I am pretty sure this is why the RAM is unseated every once in a while. Is there a way that I can "tighten" them down without replacing the logic board? I was considering using some electrical tape but I wanted to see if anyone had adivce on this. I would rather not tape down my RAM but I don't know of a better way to increased the tension on the clamps to keep the RAM in. Any thoughts?

If you aren't sure what I am referring to, take a look at the image. I pulled it from the net because I didn't want to open up my MPB again and take a picture for fear that I may make the problem worse. Anwyay, the notch is in the region I circle (little blue circle).

Yeah, they are quite cheap. I can see where the clip has worn down some. Do you have any thoughts on how to fix the problem without buy a new logic board? Does any company make replacement clips that I might be able to purchase. I would probably be comfortable with replacing the clips; it looks like all I would have to do is unscrew and screw new ones in.

If anyone is curious, this is what I did. I found a nice piece of flexible metal, I think it was a picture holder and made it fit in the gap. It fit nicely and now my RAM is secure for now. My only concern is heating. Do you think it will overheat and metl the logic board with its position?

I am well aware that this is extremely shoddy but I think it was better than Scotch tape. Thoughts?

I have the same problem in my MacBook Pro! It keeps giving me the beeping RAM error thing when starting. It's intermittent, but I'm assuming the RAM is coming a bit loose and causing issues. It looks like that RAM holder assembly is screwed on, can't we just buy a replacement for that somewhere? Any idea how much fixing this is going to cost me if I "do it right" and take it to Apple?

I think that the problem may be more than simply a seating error. I can no longer correct my issue by reseating the RAM and I belive it is a logic board failure or a failure of the RAM slot. As far s just replacing the slots, I think it would be more challenging than simply unscrewing the unit. I may be wrong, but there is most likely soldering requirements and it might end up being more hassel than it is worth.

I may try the polyimide tape and see if that fixes the problem, but I have a feeling it won't. Nothing in life is every easy, especially with this being my second Apple supplied logic board. My luck does not seem to be very good.
