ios 7.0.4 Update battery issue again!

I just did the update and after I unplugged from charging overnight my battery drained over 50% in a 1/2 hour on standby!!!! Why does this garbage continue to happen? Anyone else having this issue. FYI, before update I had everything turned off to save battery life so no stranger to the ios7 battery issue but thought it was not going to happen with an update.

@petefett Did you do the update Over The Air? Or did you use iTunes to install the update? I have always used iTunes to do my updates rather than OTA because having updated my various iPhones over the years I always come here and watch the threads to see what has been happening with the updates. Most of the complaints I have seen have been from people who did an OTA update, specifically when it relates to battery life.

So I always do an full update using iTunes. I first do a backup to iTunes, then I close any running apps, then I power off my phone and power it back on to clear the memory. Once I have done that I plug my iPhone into my computer and let it connect with iTunes. Then I run a normal update and wait for the phone to complete its update process. Once the update is done, I wait a few minutes to allow the new firmware to stabalize on the phone. Then I eject it from iTunes. Then I do a reset using the Home button and the Power button to restart my phone one more time. Then I use my phone as I normally would, probably a bit more than usual because I am always curious to see what works and what might not work after the update and to play with any new features that might have been installed.

Lastly, I run it al the way down to dead and let it charge over night to re-calibrate the power meter.

I have been getting very good battery life on my two year old iPhone 4S. If this doesnt' work you might try doing a Reset All Settings reset. You will not lose any data or media or pictures. You will have to go back into settings to turn on or off any setting you had turned on or off before you did this.

The Reset All Settings reset has been very helpful with iOS 7 in clearing up a lot of the glitches and bugs that people have discovered.

This is true.

I do over the air updates all the time, so this time i decided to take someones advice of udating through itunes. Battery life has always made me frusturated with electronic devices. I become paroniod about who uses it and how long they do so. I tried this because i was desparate. THIS WORKS!!! I followed your advice, and my battery life lasts significantly longer. I guess using this method allows the software to stablalize more affectively, so it will not comsume battery. This is a a method that is old and reliable. PEOPLE tryvupdating it through your computer using itunes. Follow the steps.

The OS needs to be intregreted with the Computer chip perfectly to minimize battery consumption. This process with the computer is longer yes, but it will pay off incredible in the end. Afer the update i RECORDED real experiment woth my iphone. After the computer itunees update, my batery consumes 1%/2.2 hours. 220 hours od standby. Just like it should!!

Good luck everyone and DONT LOSE HOPE!!!

With 7.3 (and the 7's prior), my 4S battery performed similarly to the OP's. From 100% to 60% overnight while on standby. If I was using the phone (for anything--calls, texts, web, whatever), it dropped like a timer ticking down and went from 100% to dead within just a few hours. This was with suggested fixes in place, such as turning off background app refresh, location services, push notifications, dimming screen brightness, etc.

When I updated to 7.0.4, I used the process Thom_D described. That fixed some of the non-battery problems, such as random crashes, apps not running smoothly, keyboard lag, etc., and it's fixed the problem with the battery draining while in standby, but it still drains quickly while the phone is in use. It did improve a bit. Now it goes from 100% to 20% in the same amount of time, but that's still a remarkable drop from ios6 performance. Before, I could easily go two days without charging, sometimes three. A few times I forgot to shut the music off when I fell asleep and in the morning my battery was still over 80%. Now, 45 minutes of music leaves me at around 60%.

At this point, I don't know what fixes are left to try. I've already done resets, restored to factory settings, all the "battery hog" settings/features are still switched off. Until I can get a new phone, I guess I just have to wait/hope for a fix and keep a charger onhand throughout the day. Sorry I can't say something more positive, OP, but the method Thom_D described has worked for a lot of people and did fix some of my issues, so maybe it might work for you.
