ios 7.0.4 Update battery issue again!

I just did the update and after I unplugged from charging overnight my battery drained over 50% in a 1/2 hour on standby!!!! Why does this garbage continue to happen? Anyone else having this issue. FYI, before update I had everything turned off to save battery life so no stranger to the ios7 battery issue but thought it was not going to happen with an update.

iPhone 5, iOS 7

@petefett Did you do the update Over The Air? Or did you use iTunes to install the update? I have always used iTunes to do my updates rather than OTA because having updated my various iPhones over the years I always come here and watch the threads to see what has been happening with the updates. Most of the complaints I have seen have been from people who did an OTA update, specifically when it relates to battery life.

So I always do an full update using iTunes. I first do a backup to iTunes, then I close any running apps, then I power off my phone and power it back on to clear the memory. Once I have done that I plug my iPhone into my computer and let it connect with iTunes. Then I run a normal update and wait for the phone to complete its update process. Once the update is done, I wait a few minutes to allow the new firmware to stabalize on the phone. Then I eject it from iTunes. Then I do a reset using the Home button and the Power button to restart my phone one more time. Then I use my phone as I normally would, probably a bit more than usual because I am always curious to see what works and what might not work after the update and to play with any new features that might have been installed.

Lastly, I run it al the way down to dead and let it charge over night to re-calibrate the power meter.

I have been getting very good battery life on my two year old iPhone 4S. If this doesnt' work you might try doing a Reset All Settings reset. You will not lose any data or media or pictures. You will have to go back into settings to turn on or off any setting you had turned on or off before you did this.

The Reset All Settings reset has been very helpful with iOS 7 in clearing up a lot of the glitches and bugs that people have discovered.

which settings did you use? have you enabled locations services and/or system location services and or background app refresh? Display brightness? mail Push? thanks 🙂

Thanks for the advise. Yes OTA, sounds like that's a bug in itself now. I went to itunes this weekend and cannot update because the phone is up to date. So I guess the only way now is to back up and wipe the phone, reinstall via itunes and reload the phone. I'll try that in the next days but I think its completely crap that Apple, being the huge "innovator" and "leader", has to have users resort to using a pc to update their innovative device. They should pay attention here to discussions. ios7 is a failure and they should be embarrassed.

AmrAog, I tried your suggestion and surprisingly enough, it did help. I say surprisingly because I'd already tried that and it didn't do anything before. Strange. Another strange thing: when battery performance was at its worst, playing music drained the same amount as web surfing, gaming, etc. Now, it's significantly less. An hour of music drains the battery 5%, while the other things drain 20%. I know music shouldn't drain it as much in the first place, but that was the case before. Overall, the battery still drains twice as fast as it did on ios6, but at least it no longer dies within three hours and I can listen to music a lot longer.

I have only the basics in Notifications, Phone, Mail, Calendar.

Privacy => Location Services, again only the apps that I think need to know where I am, Maps, Siri, Weather, and a couple of apps like Star Walk and of course Find my iPhone.

I use two email accounts and have them both set to manual and fetch rather then push. Mail is a gigantic battery hog if you have it set to push for anything under every couple of hours.

Siri Turn off Raise to Speak. It is constantly looking to see if you picked it up.

Background Refresh is only on for Maps.

Brightness set to under 50% and auto brightness turned on.

Privacy => Advertising Limit Ad Tracking turned on.

Privacy => Locations => System Services Diagnostice & Usage, Location Based iAds, Popular Near Me, all turned off. The rest I have turned on and they don't seem to be a problem.

Privacy => Locations => System Services => Frequent Locations turned off. I just don't care where I have been that much.

Background Updates off. I just update the apps when I want to.

When I know I am going to be away from WiFi for awhile, I just go into Control Center and Turn it Off. Same with BlueTooth when I am at work and not using my earpiece.

This seems to work very well for me.

The thing is what upsets me is I didn't have to go into setting before to turn anything off, my phone was fine the way it was before 7.0.4, i NEVER had any issues with battery life on the iPhone 5, my wife goes to work early in the morning and by the time she gets to work and tries to contact me, my phone is completely off, it doesnt even turn on, I repeat something i have never had a problem with, I know i'm just one person and if I convert to another phone that wont do anything to Apple but I'm hoping that in some way or form this is fixed for everyone else. Battery life is probably the most important thing for me on a phone.

😟 This is my first post ever. Out of sheer frustration with Apple. No wonder share price is going DOWN!

Same issue with 7.0.4 as many others are just finding out this early in the update release.

Drains battery 4x faster than 7.0.3, often resulting with dead iphone and ipad in the morning.

Has anyone noticed it now takes 4x as long to charge up also? Took me 7 hours to fully charge up the iPad. Used to take less than 2 hours.

I thought Apple was less buggy than Microsoft, but the dozen buggy updates released by Apple in last 2 years are making me a huge Microsoft fan. (I have experienced a lot of bugs on the apple desktops also, not just the mobile apple devices. )

Sad. Frustrating! Unacceptable junk release. Especially for business users like us.

Apple, fix this junk please. And fast. Hope you are monitoring this thread...

I had the same issue others are stating with my 4s when I downloaded 7.0.4. No problems with 7.0.3. Luckily I found the cause of my issue and hopefully it helps you too! After I go into my email to try and swipe delete from my inbox, the delete button goes away and my mail will continue to try and update until the battery is completely dead (you can tell if this is happening because after you swipe to delete and it goes away, the "edit" button in the top right corner will flicker). It would drain my phone in about an hour. I fixed this by deleting my email accounts and re-adding them (gmail accounts). It works like a dream now and the swipe delete feature actually works as well! Hopefully this helps some of you having the same issue!
